MIN 819 WORLD MISSIONS AND THE LOCAL CHURCH' An overview and analysis of the developinent of world mis­ sions with emphasis on current specific world views. Issues such as self-supporting missions, hidden peoples ond third world mission­ aries will be explored, along with considerat ions on how to develop oworld-view congregation. MIN 822 FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION + A course designed to lead the student through a biblicol, sociologicol ond educotionol investigation of family life educotion. Discovery of common elements of an effective family minishy in the church. Integration of this data with existing resources allows each person to develop ostrategy of family life educotion for his church. MIN 823 FAMILYLIVING FOR All SEASONS + Acourse designed to provide the pastor or Chnstion worker with o developmental approach to family living. Exposure to developmental life changes in persons and how change events in life - such as birth of ochild, job change, death of parent - con affect marriage and family. (Required for all persons in Marriage and family Ministries.) MIN 824 THE PASTOR'S SPIRITUALAND EMOTIONAL HEALTH' + Acourse designed to examine the hozords of the minishy as they pertain to the mental ond spiritual health of the pastor. The pastor assisted in identifying the area of potential personal weakness and given resources for dealing with these problems Attention given to aspects of the minister's role conflicts in his personal life, family life ond ministry. Problem areas such os anger, depression, assertiveness, leadership and relationships will be explored. Techniques for self-modifying behavior to grow spiritual­ ly and emotionally presented. MIN 825 SMALL GROUPS: AN EXPRESSION Of THE BODY Of CHRIST' + Acourse focusing on birth, core and development of biblicol small groups os they function in the life of the locol church. Philosophy of small group minishy explored with strategies for beginning groups and maintaining them in the local church. Participants will learn how to train lay leaders, how small groups function effectively ond will be able to set up o small group program in their ministry. MIN 826 DYNAMICS Of CHURCH GROWTH' Acourse designed to understand scientific principles developed to date in the field of church growth; to cover rele11Jnt contempo­ rary literature on the subject ond to acquire the basic skills necessary for diagnosing the health of the locol church ond designing programs for future growth. Course is designed to provide laboratory field experience in studying church growth. lnllllves direct research into growing churches in Southern Colifor­ nio. (Additional work will be expected outside of doss hours during the course.) MIN 827 INTEGRATION Of THEOLOGY AND PSYCHOLOGY IN A COUNSELING MINISTRY+ An in-depth examination of lllrious leaders and models of counseling in 11Jgue today. Elllluation of their success in integrat­ ing psychology and theology in counseling. Course is designed to assist the church leader to establish o lifestyle of integration as well os o philosophy of integration that will hove practical expression in acounseling ministry in the locol church. (Required for all persons in Marriage and family Ministries.) MIN 828 PASTORAL CARE AND COUNSELING SKILLS + Acourse designed to help the pastor sharpen skills in pastoral core ond counseling. The student will learn and practice omodel of helping which incorporates techniques and approaches of the behavioral sciences as well os biblicol principles. Thestudent will be exposed to live counseling sessions, extensive counseling practice and professionals in practice. (Additional work will be expected outside of doss hours during the course.)

MIN808 BIBLICALMODELS FOR MARRIAGE AND FAMILY MINISTRIES + Models for personality, partnership, parenthood ond peer relationships examined in the light of the Word of God with aview to improving skills in individual, marriage and family counseling. Emphasis will be placed on the cose study approach to learning. Problem situations in the lives of people will be presented in doss and processed through discussion, diagnosis and in the light of the Scnptures. MIN 809 THEOLOGY Of THE CHURCH" An examination of the fundamental doctnnes concerning the church including its nature, orgonizotionol structure, minishy, ordinances, purpose and place in God's design. Discussion of the significonce derived from each of these areas for the procticol life of the church, with special focus on current theologicol issues in11Jlved. Emphasis on the meaning of these doctrines for the procticol life of the church. MIN 810 CONTEMPORARY BIBLICAL PREACHlNG' Examination of contemporary preaching. Attention given too 11Jriety of preaching forms, such as e11Jngelistic, expository, life­ situotion, socio-prophetic, biographical, dialogue, as well as radio and television techniques. Closs members in11Jlved in both analysis and actual preaching. MIN 81 l INTERPERSONAL RELATIONS IN THE CHURCH'+ Abiblicol ond practical examination of what believers ought to do with and for each other in the local church. Special attention given to: ways of facilitating fellowship, the place of confronta­ tion, the handling of cnticism, reactions to change, the potential of small groups, the administering of discipline, the meaning of love, the nature of forgiveness and the importance of unity. Key biblicol words and concepts studied and practical implicotions developed for the program cif the locol church. Discussion of relationships among the stoff, boards, committees and the congregation at large. MIN 813 WORSHIP" Attention given to two areas: l ) osurvey of biblicol motenols on the nature and importance of worship for the people of God; and 2) o survey of contemporary literature on worship in the church. Afoundation provided for the development of o biblicol theology/philosophy for worship in today's churches and for fundamental discussion of the practical aspects of bath planning and executing meaningful services of worship. MIN 814 CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN MARRIAGE AND FAMILY MINISTRI ES + A course designed to broaden and deepen the pastoral understanding of Christian marriage in the contemporary world. Emphasis on the sociology of marriage as on institution, the psychology of intimate relationships, ond the nature of love and sexuality. Husband-wife roles studied in the light of Scripture ond the movement toward egalitarian marriage. Attention given to the problems of di11Jrce ond remarriage, single parent, blended family and other current issues. MIN 815 THEOLOGICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL FOUNDATIONS FOR PARENTING + Development of a theologically consistent ond psychologicolly healthy understanding of the process of child rearing. Includes o critical review, both theologicolly and psychologicolly, of onumber of current approaches to parenting. Class members responsible to l ) formulate ocomprehensive program of parent educotion for o local church, or 2) develop and conduct o parent educotion seminar or workshop. MIN 817 BIBLICAL PRINCIPLES Of CHURCH RENEWAL. An examination of biblicol principles for church life wi th the aim of spiritual and mission renewal. Course emphases will center on the pastor'sstyle of leadership, inllllvement and training of lay leaders, congregational creativity, impacting the community, and preaching style and content, plus the pastor'sand congregation's spintual life.

MIN829 THE PASTOR AS ACRISIS COUNSELOR+ Student will develop skills to help individuals confronting typicol crises such as the birth of ochild, illness, the loss of ojob, marital conflict, coreer adjustment, bereavement, pre-montol pregnancy, ret irement and terminal disease. Attention given to prevention of stress in predictable developmental cnses as well os recovery management following ocrisis. Acombination of clinicol exposure, cose study ond student experience used in this seminar. MIN 830 ADMINISTRATIVELEADERSHIP INTHE LOCALCHURCH' A course designed to lead the student through o biblical, orgonizotionol and psychologicol understanding of leadership, motillltion, planning, managing conflicts, worker training, e11Jluo­ tion, change principles and orgonizotionol development. Partici­ pants hove the opportunity to examine their leadership style and to develop styles through group experiences and case studies that will make them more effective leaders. MIN 831 THE TRAINING Of LAY PASTORAL COUNSELORS+ An in-depth course aimed to provide tools for the equipping of leaders such as deacons, elders, small group leaders, Sunday school teachers and youth workers to do the work of counseling in the local church. Attention given to the stroiegy of training, using current local church programs os models. MIN 832 MASS COMMUNICATION Of THE GOSPEL· A procticol course designed to enhance the skills of the Christion communicotor in using the tools of the printed media, radio, television and film. Primary focus on the ski ll development within the student's chosen area of specialization. MIN 833 DISCIPLESHIP IN THE LOCAL CHURCH' An in-depth examination of the biblicol principles, history and methodology of discipleship. The course will emphasize the practical concern of how to develop on ongoing discipleship program in the locol ministry.
