PROGRAM SEQUENCE: (l) Aminimum of 48 units beyond the master's degree of which at least 24 units must be completed within any given 24 months is required. Amaximum of any given eight units of appropriate doctoral level \\llrk horn on accredited institution may be transferred. The student must maintain a 3.5 grade point overage to continue in the program. (2) PROGRAM COMMITTEE: Acommittee consisting of a chair­ man and !'Ml or more additional faculty members drown horn Talbot School of Theology or other programs of Biolo Un iversity shall be appointed ofter consultation with the student. Committee members ore to include the professor horn obiblical or theological field. The committee shall oversee and approve the student's entire program. (3) PROGRAM AGENDA: Awntten individual program agenda that includes proposed courses, emphasis, research tools and growth covenant must be submitted to the program committee before the completion of 12 units. (4) VOCATIONAL EXPERI ENCE: Atotal of lour years full -time Chnstion wcotionol expenence as determined acceptable by the program committee is required pnor to the granting of the Ed.D. degree. Previous expenence applies. (5) QUALIFYING EXAMINATIONS: To be token in the last semester af coursewrk. o. Wntten comprehensive examinations will be required cov­ ering the core seminars in history, philosophy, education, human development and otheory and practice research in Christion education in the student's area of emphasis. These examinations will be given the third and fourth weeks of each semester. b. Aqualifying major research paper in the student's area of emphasis will be prepared. The paper is to be presented no later than the tenth week of each semester. c. Examination of the student's teaching skills shall be ac­ complished by faculty obserwtion of ostudent-led gradu­ ate or undergraduate classroom teaching experience. The teaching demonstration must be completed no later than the twelfth week of each semester. d. Upon successful completion of the wntten comprehensive examinations, research paper and teaching skills ewluo­ tion, an oral qualifying examination will be scheduled. The examination will be comprehensive and will include a review of the student's growth covenant. The oralexamina­ tion is to be held no later than the fourteenth week of each semester. Scheduling for all qualifying examinations is to be initiated by the student in conference wi th the student's program committee chairman.

(2) EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION: Ed.D. applicants must hove 24 graduate semester units of Chnstion education course \\llrk or equiwlent. This should include ot least one course in educational administration, educational psychology, history and philosophy of Chnstion education, counseling, methods and resources of educa­ tion and group process. Undergraduate course units con count on o !'Ml to one rat io.Aminimum of 12 units must be onthe graduate level. (3) THEOLOGICAL FOUNDATION: Ed.D. applicants must have 24 graduate semester units of Bible/theology course \\llrk or equiv­ alent. These units must include Old and New Testament survey, theology, Old and New Testament introduction and hermeneutics and Bible study methods. U_ndergroduote units count on a !'Ml to one ratio. Aminimum of 12 units must be on the graduate level. (4) VOCATIONAL FOUNDATION: All Ed.D. applicants must hove a minimum of !'Ml years or equiwlent of full-time Chnstion wco­ tionol expenence, preferably within a church context. (5) Submit scores on the Graduate Record Examination Apti­ tude Test (GRE). Information regarding testing dotes and locations may be obtained by wnting to the Educational Testing Service, Box 955, Pnnceton, New Jersey 08540. No applicant is exempt horn submitting GRE scores. Scores more than three years old ore unacceptable. International students ore not required to toke the GRE if English is not their native language and they do not hold degrm from an Amencon college or university. Instead, they must submit scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). (6) Submit completed profiles (not answer sheets) of the Minnesota Multiphosic Personality Inventory (MMPI). These tests must be token at o college testing service or horn o licensed psychologist. Test motenol is confidential. Applicants ore referred to the source horn which the testing was administered if they desire clinical interpretation. The MM!'I results must be less than 12 months old. (7) Submit five letters of recommendation on forms supplied by the school. Three of these letters ore academic references and !'Ml ore character references (one must be opastor). The pastor and other character reference shall provide confirmation of spintu­ ol qualification (I Timothy 3, Titus l), spiritual giftedness, rela­ tional skills and other ministTy-reloted skills. (8)The applicant must submit awntten statement (700- l000 \\llrds) descnbing wcotionol obiectives and how the degree relates to those objectives. (9) In addition to the application and references, the applicant will submit aformal paper of at least 20 pages on a topic relating to Chnstion education which will reflect graduate level research and writing skills. (lO) The applicant must be interviewed by members of the Christion education faculty. If married, the applicant is to be accompanied by spouse, when possible. Only those who success­ fully complete the admission procedure, determined by the pre­ liminary screening, wi ll be scheduled for a personal interview CLASSIFICATION OF ADMITTED STUDENTS Each student admitted is classified in one of the following cotegones. (l) FULL GRADUATE STANDING: Applicants who intend to obtain a degree and who ore admitted without rese1wtion ore granted full graduate standing. Only students with full graduate standing may become degree candidates. (2) CONDITIONAL STANDING:Conditional admission status may be awarded to a student whose academic record shows certain deficiencies. The student must demonstrate ability to do graduate work at a high level of achievement before being considered for admission too degree program. After completing !'Ml courses (or a semester of \\llrk), the record of a student with conditional standing will be reviewed by the graduate faculty serving the program. The faculty may then grant full graduate standing or request that the student should remain on conditional standing until specified requirements hove been met. Conditionaladmission

The Ed.D. degree is designed to wov1de its graduates with the academic foundation, theological perspective and skills needed to be highly competent professionals in Christian education, able to assume significant and distinctive leadership and teachi_ng roles in the church and other institutions dealing with Christian education in a variety of settings, mrld­ wide. Integration of faith, learning and living is a major focus of the program. The program nurtures the competencies of sound scholarship, research, effective interpersonal skills and teaching ability. Competence is combined with creativity and imagination enlightened by research­ based knowledge. The doctoral program is designed to stimulate the growth of each student to be □ II that Gad intended in professional competence and in personal walk with the Lord Jesus Christ. Program Distinctives . Holistic Focus: Research oriented with □ strong emphasis in combining professional, social, spiritual and mental areas of growth. Teaching Skills: Emphasizes practical applico­ tion of effective communicotion skills. Integration: "Faith, Learning and Life" course is a core requirement. Throughout the program stu­ dents will mrk with advising committee that will include a theology/Bible professor as well as Chris­ tian education staff.
