be maintained to remain in the program. Evidence of success in teaching and of high moral character is also required. Applica­ tion must be submitted on a graduate ap­ plication form. Graduation Requirements Requi rements for the degree include the successful completion of 32 semester hours of prescribed and elective courses and the passi ng of a comprehensive writ­ ten examination coveri ng the fields of study. A minimum of 24 of the 32 required units must be completed in res idency at Biola. The project in the Field Work course is to be written up as a short thesis and deposited in t he library to be part of a growing contribution of the university to­ ward improved Christian school educa­ tion. Electives must be pertinent to the program. A maximum of six units of 400 level education courses may be used as electives toward the degree. Prior approv­ al is required. All degree requirements must be completed before the student may participate in the commencement ceremonies. A graduation petition must be filed one year in advance with the graduate graduation counselor in the office of ad­ missions and records. Additional Requirements I ) The candidate must hold a valid teaching certificate or have completed the preparation required to secure one; 2) the cand idate must have completed at least two years of successful t eachi ng in a Chris­ tian or public school prior to the grant ing of the degree; and 3) the cand idate must be involved in some aspect of Christian service while he is in the program. Biola University is approved to grant Associati on of Christian Schools adminis­ trative certificates. To be recommended , the candidate must also qualify for an ACSI teachi ng certificate.

Master of Arts in Christian School Administration Program Director: Richard Jones, Ed.D. Objectives Upon completion of the Master of Arts in Christian School Administration, it is in­ tended that the candidate know the attitudes and convictions which Christ ian schools seek to develop in their students; understand administrative duties and re­ sponsibilities; be acquainted w ith fi nancial and legal requirements of Christian schools; understand supervision, counsel­ ing, curriculum development and testi ng; and have practiced these competencies under the direction of experienced admin­ istrators. This program is designed to prepare ad ­ ministrators for Christian schools. It has been developed w ith the assistance of an advisory committee of Christian school leaders to meet the specific needs of t heir institutions. Candidates receive a broad preparation including courses in adminis­ tration, supervision, counseling, finance and law, curricu lum development, testi ng and philosophy - all of these specifically relat­ ed to the Christian school. Bible and theol­ ogy is required for those who lack prep­ aration in these areas.

The program combines theory with practice throughout, using field experience with the course work and as a culminating activity. It seeks to integrate Christian truth with all of the administrative theory and practice. This program 1s designed to be taken on a part-time basis so that it will be available to those who are employed full-time. Courses are offered in the late afternoon and early evening both during the school year and in summer sessions. The program can be completed in two full years or fou r summers. A maximum of eight units of electives and/or transfer credit may be ac­ cepted. N ine units of course load is consid ­ ered fu ll-time status for all graduate stu­ dents. Admission Requirements All applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited or recognized insti tution and should have 3.0 ( on a 4.0 scale) grade point average. A combined score of I 000 for verbal and quantitative on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is required . A 2.75 grade point average must

Students in the Master of Art s program will be required to take eight graduate units of Bible and theology through Talbot Theological Semi nary and Schoo l of Theol­ ogy in place of the elective units if they have not had such courses. Prior approval is required. This requirement may also be met by eight units of undergraduate Bible and theology courses. These will not count toward the required 32 units for gradua­ tion, however.
