Program Reduction Based Upon Prior Academic Study Qualified students coming from ap proved Bible colleges or Christian liberal arts colleges may request exemption from certain required courses. Requests for ex emption may be considered from two perspectives: I) Program reductions are possible up to a maximum of 16 units from the nor mal M.D1v requirement, i.e. 96-98 units may be reduced by two to 16 units. A reduction of as much as six units (i n cluded in the I 6) is possible for stu dents with collegiate studies in either classical Hebrew or Greek. Evaluations for reduction are considered fo r un dergraduate courses with satisfactory parallel content, provided that the col legiate courses are approximately dou ble the unit value of the corresponding seminary courses. To qualify for such reductions the student must have earned at least a "B" gr-ade in the specif ic cou1-se(s) and be able to demonstrat e competency 1n the subject matter. In the event the student takes a course which had been previously waived that previous reduction would then be nullified. 2) The substitution of electives in lieu of required courses may be arranged 1n certain circumstances. In some cases where one of the above criteria may preclude a program reduction, the stu dent may nevertheless be able to dem onstrate a satisfactory level of compe tency 1n a given subject In this event, electives may be substituted for the course 1n question. Interested students would contact the appropriate depart ment chairman regarding course substi tutions. This alternative is also available for those who qualify for the maximum program reduction indicated above. Requests for program reduction should be submitted to the admissions and records office before studies begin at Tal bot, because r-educt1ons for a specific

Students who have not taken undergraduate biblical studies will select an M.Div curriculum which includes BE 518, Old Testament Survey, on the appropriate page. Stud nts should indicate their choice of major at the beginning of their program. Changes of major- may be autho1·ized un der certain curcumstances pnor to the completion of 48 units, but are discour aged after· that point Students without a working knowledge of Greek must take NT 50 I and 502 (Be ginning Greek) to be applied toward the total M.D1v unit requirement For 1nformat1on on the emphasis of each department, check under the appropriate department heading 1n the "Description of Courses" portion of this catalog. *For m1ss1on courses see the School of lntercultural Studies and World M1ss1ons. Electives in the Curriculum The number of electives available ranges from six to 20 units 1n the M.D1v. cumcu lum. This 1s affected by such factors as: whether beginning G1·eek 1s to be taken; whether a thesis 1s to be written: whether one elects to take four units of exegesis 1n lieu of a Bible expos1t1on cour·se. There are other circumstances where the number of electives may be increased further, as indi cated 1n the 1nd1v1dual M.D1v. curriculum charts. All electives are open to the students' choice (check prerequ1s1tes) r·egardless of major, but that choice may be governed by the following gu1del1nes: I) each major ad visor, 1f he deems necessary, may require up to four units of elective in the depart ment of major study 1n preparation for· the thesis 1n that department The thesis must be written 1n the student's major field. 2) Those who will not write a thesis are re quired to take a minimum of six elective units 1n the field of their major. At the advi sor's d1scret1on, however, th minimum may be increased to eight units. 3) For stu dents 1n the diversified major, the electives are not restricted as to department
