Provisional credit for liberal arts courses from non-accredited institutions will be granted in accordance with the poli cies of state colleges or universities of the state in which the institution is located from which credit is being transfe1-red. Provisional credit is considered validated only when the student performs at the "C" level or better following his enrollment in Biola University. Transfer students will not be required to take the Scholastic Aptitude Test or the ACT if given sophomore classification upon entrance (requires 27 semester units of accepted credits). However, all transfer students entering nursing or education must have the SAT or the ACT Biola University will accept correspon dence credit from regionally accredited or recognized schools. The maximum al lowed is 15 semester units of credit. The maximum limit for recognized correspon dence courses in Bible is six units. Advanced Placement Program Biola University, as a member of the College Entrance Examination Board, rec ognizes the merits of the Advanced Place ment Program and will grant credit for Advanced Placement courses taken in high school. Credit will be given when recom mended by the high school and when the Advanced Placement examination is grade 3 or better. College Level Examination Program Biola University subscri bes to the Col lege Level Examination Program (CLEP) of the College Entrance Examination Board. Biola University encourages transfer st u dents from non-accredited schools to vali date certain credits on the basis of the ex aminations provided by this program. High school students with super ior records ·are encouraged to take the general examina tions prior to attending Biola University.
5. The scores of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) of t he College Entrance Exami nation Board or the ACT must be submit ted. Information regarding testi ng dates may be secured from a high school coun- · selor. Appl icant s are encouraged to take the SAT or the ACT no later than the Jan uary test ing date. SAT is preferred. Notification Certificates notifying applicants of their admission st_atus are mailed on a rolling ba sis. Freshmen applicants with at least a 30 ("B") average through grade I I and ac ceptable test scores may be notified of ac ceptance prior to receipt of their seventh semester transcript. Applicants who are granted acceptance are required to vali date their acceptance by the payment of a non-refundable enrollment deposit of $50. Accompanying the certificate of accep tance will be a health form which must be properly completed by both the applicant and the applicant's physician. A medical consent form is also required of single stu dents under the age of eighteen at the time of entrance. Transfer Students Transfe,- students must present the same application forms and t ranscripts as those applying for freshman standing. The transcript from the last school attended must bear the statement of honorable dis missal. The office of admissions and records has final authority for the release of transfer credits into Biola University. Transfer students with less than 27 se mester units of regu lar college work must qualify for admission on the basis of both their high school and their college record . A minimum grade average of "C" (2.00) is required on all work attempted at the col lege level. Those transferring with 27 se mester units or more of col lege work will be considered on the basis of their college grades (high school graduation transcript is still required). Transfer students coming from institu tions which are not accredited nor recog nized may be given the opportunity to vali-
High School Record An appl icant for regular standing must be a graduat e of a recognized high school with a scholastic record (including SAT or ACT scores) w hich indicates abili ty to pur sue higher education successfully. The appli cant must have 16 acceptable high school units (one unit equals one year in a course), 12 of w hich shou ld be spread over the academic areas of Engl ish (3), so cial studies (2), mathemati cs (2), science (includi ng a laboratory science) ( I ), fore ign language (mi nimum of 2; recommend 4) and re lated areas. Prospective students in terest ed in the nursi ng program must take chemistry and algebra in high school. A pplicants are urged to have at least two years in one foreign language in high school. The applicant with four years of the same language in high school wi ll not have to take any foreign language unless major ing in Bible w hich requires Greek. Those wi th no foreign language in high school o r w ishing to begi n a new language in college to meet the general educati on requ irement, must t ake twelve un its (3 se mesters) of a foreign language for most majors. Catal og information regarding each major w il l indicate any exceptions to thi s ru le.
Procedure The following must be filed in seeking admission: I . The personal application form, including an identification picture. The application for admission must be accompanied by a $25 non-refundable appl ication fee. 2. An official high school transcript. The applicant should request the high school to send this directly to the director, admis sions. 3. An official transcript sent directly to the director of admissions from each school the appl icant has attended since high school. This includes schools attended for even part of a semester. Those applyi ng to the education or nursing programs should have an additional copy of each school's transcri pt sent directly to the appropriate department. 4. Two personal references: one from the applicant's pastor or someone on the pas toral staff who knows the applicant and one from the school last attended or from an employer if the applicant has been out of school for at least one year and has been working.
