Master of Arts Program

in Marriage and Family Ministries PHILOSOPHY

The Masters of Arts in Marriage and Family Ministries is de­ signed to equip those in the local church for a specific ministry to families. This program is designed to give an equivalent back­ ground and preparation in both the areas of Bible/ theology as well as counseling / teaching. It is the design of this master's program to equip students in the area of preparation ministries (premarital preparation and family life education through teaching and seminars) and in short-term counseling techniques including individual, marital and family counseling. A definite emphasis is placed upon recognition of disorders which would require greater specialization and training so ministerial staff can be better equipped to make referrals. The purpose is to provide the local church with spec iali sts in the field of Marriage and Family Ministries who have built both their coun sel ing and teaching skills upon a solid biblical/theological base . This pro­ gram is under the supervision of the department of Christian education , since family ministries is one part of the total Christian education ministry. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Application must be completed by November I for spring admis­ sion and April I for fall admission. Applicant must have a minimum grade point average of3.0 to be granted acceptance without provisions. Applicant must submit a written statement outlining his voca­ tional objectives and how the degree might relate to those objec­ tives and be interviewed by members of the Christian education faculty. Applicant must have taken the TJTA and MMPI within the last 12 months with results on file with department. A limited number of students are admitted into the program each year. Preference will be given to students with experience in ministry. Applicant must have 12 semester units of psychology which include educational psychology , abnormal psychology , and
