submitted in a thesis should be secured in writing, prior to publication, from the university theological faculty. Only one year following completion of course work is allowed for completion of a thesis. Students who have completed their course work must register as a thesis-non-resident student for every semester the thesis remains outstanding. Students may go beyond this one year period only by advance permission of the Graduate Committee. Such permission is granted only in extreme circumstances and the Committee normally re­ quires additional course work, (two units per year or part thereof), beyond the 26 unit requirement in conjunction with such an extension. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS Degrees are awarded to qualified candidates at the university's winter and spring commencements. Students are required to be present for graduation unless advanced permission to graduate in absentia has been secured. To qualify for graduation , candidates must present an acceptable thesis , have satisfactorily passed their comprehensive examinations and have completed all required course work with a minimum average of 3 .0. No grade less than a B will be credited toward the Th.M. degree units. Candidates for the Th.M. degree should also manifest promise of usefulness in Christian ministry, exhibit exemplary and consistent Christian character and evidence sound theological beliefs in accordance with the university's doctrinal statement.

Applications for candidacy must be supported by (I) evidence of satisfactory completion of all prerequisite and normal course work to that point ; (2) a recommendation for admission to candidacy by the depart­ ment chairman in in the student's major field; (3) approval by the major departmental chairman of an acceptable thesis topic. G. Comprehensive Examinations: All candidates for the Th.M. degree must pass a written comprehensive examination over the major field of study. These examinations serve as a major means of evaluating the student's academic competency and ability to complete the degree requirements. Comprehensive examinations may be taken any time after completion of 18 units of Th.M. course work. Only two retakes of such an examination are permit­ ted. H. Thesis: An acceptable thesis evidencing a high degree of scholarly competence in the student's major field must be submitted by all Th. M. candidates. Information regarding thesis form and submission deadlines is provided in the ' 'Thesis Informa­ tion " section of the Talbot Student Handbook. Two copies , the original and one copy , are to be presented to the library for binding. All theses, whether acceptable or not , become the property of the university. Permission to publish material
