MIN 808 BIBLICAL MODELS FOR MARRIAGE AND FAMILY MINISTRIESt Models for personality , pai1nership , parenthood and peer rela­ tionships examined in the light of the Word of God with a view to improving skills in individual , marriage and family counseling. Emphasis will be placed on the case study approach to learning. Problem situations in the lives of people will be presented in class and processed through discussion , diagnosis and in the light of the Scriptures. MIN 809 THEOLOGY OF THE CHURCH* An examination of the fundamental doctrines concerning the church including its nature, organizational structure , ministry, ordinances, purpose and place in God's design. Discussion of the significance derived from each of these areas for the practical life of the church , with special focus on current theological issues involved. Emphasis on the meaning of these doctrines for the practical life of the church. MIN 810 CONTEMPORARY BIBLICAL PREACHING* Examination of contemporary preaching . Attention given to a variety of preaching forms , such as evangelistic, expository , life-situation, socio-prophetic, biographical, dialogue , as well as radio and television techniques . Class members involved in both analysis and actual preaching. MIN 811 INTERPERSONAL RELATIONS IN THE CHURCH*t A biblical and practical examination of what believers ought to do with and for each other in the local church. Special attention given to: ways of facilitating fellowship, the place of confronta­ tion , the handling of criticism , reactions to change, the potential of small groups , the administering of discipline, the meaning of love, the nature of forgiveness and the importance of unity. Key biblical words and concepts studied and practical implications developed for the program of the local church. Discussion of relationships among the staff, boards, committees and the con­ gregation at large. MIN 813 WORSHIP* Attention given to two areas: 1) a survey of biblical materials on the nature and importance of worship for the people of God; and 2) a survey of contemporary literature on worship in the church. A foundation provided for the development of a biblical theology / philosophy for worship in today ' s churches and for fundamental discussion of the practical aspects of both planning and executing meaningful services of worship. MIN 814 CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN MARRIAGE AND FAMILY MINISTRIESt A course designed to broaden and deepen the pastoral under­ standing of Christian marriage in the contemporary world. Emph­ asis on the sociology of marriage as an institution , the psychology of intimate relationships , and the nature of love and sexuality. Husband-wife roles studied in the light of Scripture and the movement toward egalitarian marriage. Attention given to the problems of divorce and remarriage , single parent , blended fami­ ly and other current issues. MIN 815 THEOLOGICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL FOUNDATIONS FOR PARENTlNGt Development of a theologically consistent and psychologically healthy understanding of the process of child rearing. Includes a critical review , both theologically and psychologically, of a num­ ber of current approaches to parenting. Class members responsi- continued 145

Fulfillment of the above basic requirements does not necessarily guarantee admission into the program be­ cause indiv idua l cases and circumstances, such as avail­ able openings in the program , may dictate other factors to be considered . In general, a high standard of overall per­ formance, especially in practice of ministry, will be the governing criterion. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS A. Resident Study: Six courses of study (six units each) com­ prise the basic residency requirement. At least four of the courses must be taken in the field of concentration. Each course will require significant preliminary reading in prepa­ ration and a fol low-up project at the conclusion of the classroom experience . D.Min. course descriptions are listed below. A minimum grade of " B" must be maintained in each course acceptable toward completion of the program. B. A Dissertation Action Project: Action research , as distin­ guished from library research , will be_ conducted _by the candidate in the major field of concentration. Ordmanly, the minimum length will be I00 pages and the maximum length 150 pages. However , the quality of the project will be con­ sidered of more importance than the length. The subject must be approved by the candidate ' s advisor. The dissertation action project must be submitted to the student's advisor according to dates prescribed by the Graduate Committee. The original and one copy of the dissertation, completed in prescribed seminary form , must be in the dean ' s office three months before graduation. A schedule of classes is available upon request. MIN 801 PASTOR'S SYMPOSIUM* An in-depth study of the varied tasks of the contemporary pastor , with particular consideration of his roles as expositor , discipler , evangelist , counselor and leader of worship. Pastors who have distinguished themselves as thoughtful practitioners of the art serve as resource leaders. MIN 803 PRE-MARITAL AND MAR ITAL COUNSELINGt A course designed to equip the pastor in the principles of pre­ marital counseling . Emphasis given to the practical aspects of structuring and conducting a complete pre-marital preparation program within the local church. Specific techniques for manta! counseling to be presented , discussed and demonstrated through­ out the duration of this course. ?requisite : training in the use of the Taylor-Johnson Temperament Analysis. MIN 807 BIBLICAL EVANGELISM IN THE TWENTIETH CENTURY* A practical study of the historic biblical foundations , the theology and the "how to" of local church evangelism.
