MIN 817 BIBLICAL PRINCIPLES OF CHURCH RENEWAL* An examination of biblical principles for church life with the aim of spiritual and mission renewal . Course emphases will center on the pastor's style of leadership , involvement and training of lay leaders, congregational creativity, impacting the community, and preaching style and content , plus the pastor's and congregation ' s spiritual life. MIN 819 WORLDWIDE MISSIONS AND THE LOCAL CHURCH* An overview and analysis of the development of world missions with emphasis on current specific world views. Issues such as self-supporting missions, hidden peoples and third world mis­ sionaries will be explored , along with considerations on how to develop a world-view congregation. MIN 822 FAMILY LIFE EDUCATIONt A course designed to lead the student through a biblical , socio­ logical and educational investigation of family life education. Discovery of common elements of an effective family ministry in the church. Integration of this data with existing resources allows each person to develop a strategy of family life education for his church. MIN 823 FAMILY LIVING FOR ALL SEASONS t A course designed to provide the pastor or Christian worker with a developmental approach to family living. Exposure to develop­ mental life changes in persons and how change events in life - such as birth of a child , job change , death of parent - can affect marriage and family. (Required for all persons in Marriage and Family Ministries.) MIN 824 THE PASTOR'S SPIRITUAL AND EMOTIONAL HEALTH* t A course designed to examine the hazards of the ministry as they pertain to the mental and spiritual health of the pastor. The pastor assisted in identifying the area of potential personal weakness and given resources for dealing with these problems. Attention given to aspects of the minister ' s role conflicts in his personal life , family life and ministry. Problem areas such as anger , depression, assertiveness, leadership and relationships will be explored. Techniques for self-modifying behavior to grow spir­ itually and emotionally presented. MIN 825 SMALL GROUPS: AN EXPRESSlON OF THE BODY OF CHRIST*t A course focusing on birth, care and development of biblical small groups as they function in the life of local church. Philoso­ phy of small group ministry explored with strategies for begin­ ning groups and maintaining them in the local church. Partici­ pants will learn how to train lay leaders , how small groups function effectively and will be able to set up a small group program in their ministry. MIN 826 STRATEGIES FOR CHURCH GROWTH* A course designed to understand scientific principles developed to date in the field of church growth, to cover relevant contempor­ ary literature on the subject and to acquire the basic skills neces­ sary for diagnosing the health of the local church and designing programs for future growth . MIN 827 INTEGRATION OF THEOLOGY AND PSYCHOLOGY IN A COUNSELING MINISTRYt

An in-depth examination of various leaders and models of counseling in vogue today . Evaluation of their success in integ­ rating psychology and theology in counseling. Course is designed to assist the church leader to establish a lifestyle of integration as well as a philosophy of integration that will have practical ex­ pression in a counseling ministry in the local church. (Required for all persons in Marriage and Family Ministries.) MIN 828 PASTORAL CARE AND COUNSELING SKILLS t A course designed to help the pastor sharpen skills in pastoral care and counseling. The student will learn and practice a model of helping which incorporates techniques and approaches of the behavioral sciences as well as biblical principles. The student will be exposed to live counseling sessions , extensive counseling practice and professionals in practice . (Additional work will be expected outside of class hours during the course.) MIN 829 THE PASTOR AS A CRISIS COUNSELORt Student will develop skills to help individuals confronting typical crises such as ; the birth of a child, illness, the loss of a job , marital conflict, career adjustment , bereavement , pre-marital pregnancy , retirement and terminal disease. Attention given to prevention of stress in predictable developmental crises as well as recovery management following a crisis. A combination of clinical expo­ sure , case study and student experience used in this seminar. MIN 830 ADMINISTRATIVE LEADERSHIP IN THE LOCAL CHURCH* A course designed to lead the student through a biblical, organi­ zational and psychological understanding of leadership , motiva­ tion , planning, managing conflicts , worker training , evaluation , change principles and organizational development. Participants have the opportunity to examine their leadership style and to develop styles through group experiences and case studies that will make them more effective leaders. MIN 831 THE TRAINING OF LAY PASTORAL COUNSELORS t An in-depth course aimed to provide tools for the equipping of leaders such as deacons , elders , small group leaders , Sunday school teachers and youth workers to do the work of counseling in the local church. Attention given to the strategy of training , using current local church programs as models . MIN 832 MASS COMMUNICATION OF THE GOSPEL* A practical course designed to enhance the skills of the Christian communicator in using the tools of the printed media , radio , television and film. Primary focus on the skill development within the student ' s chosen area of specialization. MIN 833 DISCIPLESHIP IN THE LOCAL CHURCH * An in-depth examination of the biblical principles, history and methodology of discipleship. The course will emphasize the practical concern of how to develop an ongoing discipleship program in the local ministry.
