Part-time students seeking a degree from Biola University must complete the entire requirement as outlined above. GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENT It is the purpose of the general education requirement to introduce the student to areas of study that mature the mind, open new vistas of appreciation and understanding, enrich social relationships and develop skills and aptitudes that can aid the student in furthering his personal and social usefulness. Since it is the purpose of a liberal arts education to create a broad base upon which to build one's continuing education, the student is allowed to select from the following courses to build his own base in the liberal arts. If a student wishes to chal­ lenge his SAT score he may take a Diagnostic Test administered by the English Department. If he fails this test, he must take Basic English Workshop, English 090 (three semester hours with no credit toward graduation). Note: International students, please seep. 63 and English 107. Academic Dismissal: A student may be dismissed at any time if his grades are very low in one semester or if he has not achieved minimum grades for two successive semesters. A student who is considered for dismissal may be allowed to continue on strict probation as determined by the Academic Standards Committee. A dismissed student may apply for re-admission only after a full year has elapsed. After one year, he may apply for re-admission only if evidence is given which indicates that chances for scholas­ tic success are good. A student who has been twice dismissed may not be re-admitted . SCHOOL HONORS Students achieving a semester grade point average of 3.50 or better while enrolled in nine or more units and whose cumulative grade point average is 3.00 or better, will be placed on the semester's Dean's List . For graduation honors, students complet­ ing their course with a grade point average of 3.50 are graduated Cum Laude. Students with a 3.70 G.P.A. are graduated Magna Cum Laude. Students with a 3.90 G.P.A. are graduated Summa Cum Laude. In order to graduate with honors from Biola Uni­ versity, at least 60 units must be earned in residence at this school. Each year elections to membership in the Biola chapter of Delta Epsilon Chi, a national honor society of schools affiliated with the American.Association of Bible Colleges, are made from the graduating class. Such membership is limited to seven percent of the graduating class and is based on scholastic performance as well as Christan life and service. BIBLICAL STUDIES AND THEOLOGY REQUIREMENT Biola University is committed to a strong biblical emphasis. A firm foundation in the Word of God is imperative for all God's servants, regardless of what type of ministry they may enter. A total of 30 units of biblical studies and theology must be included in the program of each student according to the requirements of the American Association of Bible Colleges. Each student must take at least one course each semester until he has fulfilled the requirement. The following are required: OLD TESTAMENT STUDIES 101 Early Hebrew History 3 units 102 Later Hebrew History 3 units NEW TESTAMENT STUDIES 201 New Testament Literature I 3 units 202 New Testament Literature II 3 units 300 Early Christian History - Acts 3 units THEOLOGICAL STUDIES 100 Biblical Foundations 3 units 300 God, Christ and the Holy Spirit 3 units 310 Man , Sin and Salvation 3 units 410 Interpretive Systems, the 3 units Church and Last Things Elective in biblical or theological studies 3 units Note: Students who select a liberal arts major may count only a total of 30 units of biblical studies and theology toward the required units for a degree. The maximum limit for recognized correspondence courses in Bible is six units.
