May be repeated on different topics. 472 INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION (3) Principles and processes of communicating from one culture to another. Focus on different perceptions , ways of thinking , values, non-verbal expression , language expression and sub­ groups within a culture as they relate to the media and the message.

The background, origin, development and spread of the Christian faith from the apostolic period until today. Emphasis will be given to the modem era, especially contemporary growth dyna­ mics in Africa , Asia and Latin America. 467 VARIANT RELIGIOUS MOVEMENTS (3) Survey of various religious movements in America with empha­ sis on their distinctive teachings which contrast with historical Christianity. Focus on the special needs of members of these groups and the additional factors that must be considered when dealing with them in contrast to the average non-Christian. 468 INTRODUCTION TO THE THEOLOGY OF MISSIONS (3) A study of the centrality of God's redemptive acts in behalf of mankind from both the Old and New Testaments , with emphasis on their application to the mission of the Church in modem times. 473 , 474 PRACTICUM SEMINAR (1-3 , 1-3) Supervised field experience in an intercultural situation.

480 DIRECTED RESEARCH (1 -3) Directed research in intercultural studies. Prerequisite: consent of instructor. May be repeated for credit on different topics to a maximum of six units.
