AMEN! Calamities and judgments often end in “ Amen,” as in Rev. 1:7. The wicked must he punished. And there is a great deal of meaning in the word today. Can we say “ Amen” to God’s ■righteous judgments? God wants us to say, in the face of all that is taking place— (and in the face of all that is going to take place even if a peace comes)— by the faith of the Son of God, “ Amen.” But closer to each one of us is the fact that many passages of personal suffering end in “ Amen.” Miss Murray points out a beautiful verse in Jere miah. The prophet had just been told by God that he was to bear some pecu liarly difficult suffering, and his answer is just “ Amen, O Lord.” (Jer. 11:5, Revised version). Sometimes you wrap yourself in sor row as in a sable cloak, and quiver with every touch of His Band upon you, and say “ I can bear no more.” But the gen tle message comes,— “ It will be easier if you just say ‘Amen’.” “ Amen” stands at the end of all, and completes all. Some day we will say “ Amen” to all our prayers, when we go above. There is no record of pray ing in heaven,— they are just giving one long eternal thanksgiving and “ Amen” to all the glories of the Lord. So we have got to condense all our praying into this life. And there will come an “ Amen” to all our prayers. “ When Hudson Taylor was dying, he murmured faintly, “ I’m too weak to read, or to pray, but I can still trust.” You and I, whether dying, or at the Lord’s com ing, will say one day “ Amen” to all our prayers,— and then, we shall cry a glad “ Amen!!” when we. see Him fac^tofanp, and are satisfied, seeing Him as He jis, in all (Continued, on page 1041)
are anything that comes between God and ourselves. Can we say “ Amen” to this? A man was appealing for mission aries in a church in the States, and finally asked all those who would vol unteer for the foreign field to come for ward. A number came and sat down in the front pew, and as he looked at them, the first one he saw was his own daughter, and involuntarily the words escaped him,— “ O Mary, I didn’t mean you!” There are so many who can say “ Amen” to God’s plans for others, but not when it touches themselves. God says “ Go ye into all the world . . . Amen.” Can we say “ Amen” to that? Young man, young woman, God has a right to send you forth, and you dis obey His voice at your peril,S-not peril of losing your soul, 'but peril of your life in this world, for it is sadly pos sible to save your soul and yet lose your life. O let us all say a glad “ Amen” to all His plans for all of us! Many of the prophecies end in “ Amen” . . . And they are all summed up in Revelation 22:20— “ He that testifieth these things saith ‘Yea, I come quickly. Amen.” -’ Even so come, Lord Jesus!” He’s coming back soon,—-are you glad? X remember a dream that I had a long time ago. I dreamt I was walking through a field at night, and the stars were shining so clearly. But one star seemed to be getting brighter and brighter, and coming closer and Closer, and then somehow I knew that it was the Lord returning, and I fairly leaped up to meet Him in such joy! And then I woke, O the revulsion of feeling to find myself still here on earth. “ Yea, I come quickly. Amen.” Let that word search your heart, and see if there is anything that prevents you saying
