Christian until Ananias was sent to him by the Lord. When Ananias came in he said to him, “Why tarriest thou? Arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on His name.” This clearly implies that though Paul had decided in his heart to accept the Lord Jesus Christ, he was waiting before making an open confession of Him in God’s appointed way, and Ananias as God’s messenger bade him wait no longer, but to make the open con fession in which his conversion and his faith in Christ was consummated and in which his sins were washed away. “Why is the word Jehovah printed in both small capitals and in large capitals in the same line in Isa. 12:2 and 26:4 ?” It is not so printed in the Revised Version. The reason why it is so printed in the Authorized Version is because two slightly different words are used for Jehovah in the two places in the Hebrew Bible, the one word being Jah and the other word Jehovah. The two words are from the same Hebrew root and stand for the same person, and mean the same thing, the one an abbreviation of the other. The Revised Version desired to indicate to the reader that the words were not exactly the same in the Hebrew, and therefore printed one as LORD and the other as Jehovah in . capitals. The reason why in the Hebrew Bible Isaiah used the two words was to emphasize that it was God, Jehovah, the Covenant God of Israel who was his strength and song, so he did it by repetition, but did it in varying forms. “Why is the word Lord printed but three times in the Gospels, with cap itals? (Matt. 22:44; Mark 12:36; Luke 20:42).” It is not so printed in all editions of the Authorized Version; indeed it was not so printed in the original imprint of the Authorized Version in 1611, of which I have a copy before me, but it is

so printed in many, if not most of the imprints of the Authorized Version, but not so printed in the Revised Version. There is, however, a reason, and rather a good reason, for so printing it in those imprints where it is thus printed, and that is, that in each one of these instances the passage so printed is a quotation from the Old Testament (Ps. 110:1), and in the Old Testament the word LORD is printed in capitals. The reason of that is that in the .Hebrew the word is Jehovah, and our English version, following the practice of the Jews, renders Jehovah by LORD. That is to say, the Jews regarded Jehovah as the unspeakable name, and when they came to it in their reading they pro nounced the ordinary Hebrew word meahing Lord, but the translators 'into English, to indicate that it was not the ordinary word for Lord in the Hebrew, printed the LORD in capital letters. As the passages cited were a quotation of a passage which is for the reason given above so printed in the Old Testament therefore these editors printed it this way in the New Testament; and, as stated, there was a good deal of reason for so doing. “ In Rev. 19:16 why Is the word Kings and Lords printed with large capitals?” Because it is a title of a Divine per son, printed this way for sake of emphasis. In the earliest Greek manu scripts all letters were capitals. “ PROVIDE THINGS HONEST” A lady had bought several cords of wood from an old Indian. When the wood was measured it lacked just a few pieces of full measure. The lady said, “ Oh, that is all right.” A few days later, however, the Indian came with enough wood to fully make it up. “ Why I told you,” said the lady, “ that it was all right.” “ But,” he replied, “ me want no short cords to meet me in heaven.”-
