^X^orlcTs Evangelical Prayer Alliance Call to Annual Week of Prayer beginning January 5, 1919 With Suggestive Topics for Eack Daj)

human efforts to remove the stumbling blocks in the path. Woman has gone over the parapet. She has left forever the protections and the limitations of her shielded life. New powers are being placed in her hands, new perils are around her feet. Womanhood needs our prayërs, for there is no turning back from the path on which she has entered. The minds of young people are filled with disruptive ideas. They are deeply dissatisfied with the thoughts and deeds which have led to this world conflagra tion. The new world will soon be theirs to make or mar. It is for us to pray for them, as well as to sympathize with them, and to seek to guide them. All the problems of reconstruction— communal, national and international -—will soon be upon us. There must be revaluation of the guiding principles of life, resurrection of dead forces of faith. Only the Father of mercies, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ can reinforce our strength and enlighten our minds for our hitherto unaccepted tasks. In addition, we stand face to face with the widely felt impotence of the Christian Church and the ever-growing magnitude of problems of Evangeliza tion. Who is sufficient for these and the ever-growing magnitude of prob lems of Evangelization! ? Who is suffic ient for these things? They appal us unless we take them as the challenges of God to our faith. This drives us to our knees, and fills us with the desire for fellowship. The World’s Evangelical Alliance offers you this opportunity as another New Year opens before us. With immov able confidence in the Lord of Hosts

Preachers are earnestly asked to use the suggested texts for sermons on Sunday, January 5th, and to bring the Universal Week of Prayer before their congregations. 2. Kindly forward promptly a brief report of meetings held and results, to the General Secretary, World’s Evan gelical Alliance (British Organization), 19, Russell Square, London, W . C. 1, England. To all who follow Christ in every land. Dear Brethren in Christ Jesus: It was surely never before so natural to pray and never before so difficult. Prayer in these days is instinctive. The forces that have been released are too vast for any man or nation to compass. We are driven to appeal to God. Yet prayer was never so difficult. Deep is our ignorance. Less than ever can we read the scroll of the future. In much obscurity of outlook and deep confusion of mind, we cast ourselves upon the Father of spirits. But there are certain subjects which are specially in our minds, in addition to the one continual cry that God will defend the right and will reveal His righteousness in triumph. Reunion in the Church of Christ occupies many minds. A wistfulness for felt and manifested unity is widely spread, and in some hearts amounts to a passion. We give God thanks for this sign of His Spirit at work and beseech Him to bless all our poor
