I. Why the Brethren Sold Joseph. Recall the kind of a home in which Joseph was brought up. Jacob had two wives, and each wife had a handmaid, and there were four different families in the household. That, itself, prepares the way for the trouble that followed. Joseph was the son of Rachel, the wife whom Jacob loved best. He had ten half brothers, all older than himself. Jacob had large flocks and herds, and it was the business of his sons to take care of them. When Joseph became old enough
