All California residents are expected to apply for one of the Cal Grant programs, using the SAAC. First time applicants will also need to file the appropriate Cal Grant Supplement(s). Renewal supplements will automatically be mailed to those eligible for renewal. Basic Grants may be applied for by completing the appropriate section of the SAAC or FAF. Departmental applications for scholarships (for music, athletics, art and forensics) are available from departments only . For example, write to the Chairman, Music Department, Biola College. Note: New financial aid applications need to be filed for each academic year. When to File? The following deadlines have been established for the various aid programs: Cal Grant Program - New Applicants: Feb . 12 - Renewals: Late March College Aid - All Applicants: Mar. 1* *April 1st is the college application deadline. However, the SAAC or FAF will need to be filed by March 1st to allow for adequate processing time. Late applications will be processed as time and funds permit.

3.60 G.P.A. , attendance at Biola for at least two years, as well as personal qualifications. Music Awards , ranging from $300 to $1,400, are made by the Music Department to music majors with high-performance and scholastic capabilities . The scholarship must be used for the area in which the applicant auditioned. Recipients may also be required to participate in an ensemble activity. Two specially designated scholarships are open to organ and composition majors on an annual competition basis. These prestigious awards, equal to the highest scholarship granted, are The Rayner Brown Scholarship for Composition, and The Timothy Howard Scholarship for Organ. Athletic Scholarships are offered to students who demonstrate outstanding ability and achievement in a particular sport. Forensics Scholarships are offered to participants on the school's competitive speech team. Students awarded this scholarship are not necessarily communications majors. Art Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate significant potential in the field of art. Nursing Scholarships are available to declared nursing majors only. The scholarship is based on need , rather than academic achievement. Qualified nursing students may receive up to $1,500 per year. Nursing loans are also available. Biological Science Scholarships Pre-Med scholarships up to $500 per semester are available to upper-division Biological Science Majors. The scholarship is based on need and pre-med potential. Application forms available from the pre med Advisory Committee Department of Biological Science. Cal Grant A's are made available to hundreds of California residents each year. Eligibility is based on G.P.A. and financial need. In addition, several students from low income families receive funds through the Cal Grant B Program. In addition to those offered by the college, other scholarships are provided through the generosity of donors. Questions concerning these awards should be referred to the Director of Student Financial Services. Grants Grants are financial awards that do not have to be repaid, but the amount a student receives is based solely on his financial need as determined by standard financial aid policies. The Pell Grant (formerly Basic Educational Opportunity Grant) , Program is a Federal Program which is designed to assist students with financial need.

TYPES OF AID AVAILABLE Scholarships

All financial aid is awarded for the academic year, and one half is applied to a student's school account each semester (unless stated otherwise). Students enrolled for only one semester are entitled to only that semester' s award . Awards are made by the Scholarship Committee to students meeting academic and personal requirements. Scholarships ranging from $200 upward are given for a period of one year, and in most cases are renewable if the student continues to meet requirements and funds are available. Bio/a Scholarships include academic, honor, meritorious service and presidential awards. Academic: $200 to $1000. 3.3 G.P.A. required, and SAT scores of at least 800 or equivalent ACT scores; based upon academic achievement and financial need. Honor: One-half tuition annually to each recipient. 3.75 G.P.A. required for entering freshmen and SAT scores of at least 1000 or equivalent ACT; 3.60 G.P.A . required for continuing Biola students based upon academic achievement and personal qualifications. Consideration given to financial status. President's Award: Full Tuition Senior standing with intention to graduate at the end of the school year required, along with a minimum
