Objectives: Coursework in the Department of Biblical Studies and Theology is central to the Biola College curriculum. Upon completion of any degree program, it is intended the student will be able to use the Bible for personal life, evangelism and public ministry; be acquainted with biblical content through the synthetic, analytical and expository methods of Bible study; have a thorough grasp of all the major doctrines of the Word of God and be able to correlate the whole into one defensible system which will form a solid foundation for the understanding and intelligent use of the Bible; have a deeper Christian experience and greater spiritual maturity. Department Major: Biblical Studies and Theology majors must take all of the general Bible requirements, excluding the three unit elective. In addition, each major will choose an area of emphasis and complete the required courses therein . OLD TESTAMENT EMPHASIS: Majors desiring to place a stronger emphasis in Old Testament studies are required to take the following courses: Old Testament Theology (OT 450), 9 units upper division Old Testament electives from the following courses 300, 310, 430 or 440; 3 units upper division New Testament elective; History 304, Hebrew 101-102 and 201-202, Greek 101-102 and 201-202. NEW TESTAMENT EMPHASIS: Majors desiring to place a stronger emphasis in New Testament studies are required to take the following courses: New Testament Theology (NT 450), 12 units upper division New Testament courses as follows: 3 units in the Gospels , 3 units in the Epistles and 6 units open electives; Romans (NT 320); History 304, 324; 3 units upper division Old Testament elective; and Greek 101-102, 201-202. BIBLE EMPHASIS: Majors desiring to have a general knowledge of the whole Bible are required to take the following courses: Romans (NT 320) , Old Testament or New Testament Theology (OT 450, NT 450), 6 units upper division Old Testament electives, 6 units upper division New Testament electives, 6 units upper division Old Testament or New Testament or theology electives, CE 200, and Greek 101-102 and 201-202. PRE-SEMINARY EMPHASIS: Majors desiring a biblical education or a foundation for further studies in seminary are required to take: Romans (NT 320), Old Testament or New Testament Theology (OT 450, NT 450), 6 units upper division O.T. electives, 6 units upper division N.T. electives, 3 units upper division Old Testament or New Testament or theology electives. Logic (PH 205) or Ethics (PH 305), Communication 385 or 386 or 478, Music 440, Sociology 402, Business 372 and Greek 101-102 and 201-202.
