POLICY FOR EVALUATION OF THE REGISTERED NURSE APPLICANT, LICENSED VOCATIONAL NURSE APPLICANT, AND TRANSFER STUDENTS FROM OTHER NURSING PROGRAMS.

1. The applicant must first be accepted by Biola College and fulfill all matriculation requirements of the college. 2. ALL STUDENTS APPLYING TO THE NURSING PROGRAM MUST HAVE A MINIMUM CUMULATIVE GRADE POINT AVERAGE OF 2.5. 3. Applicants planning to challenge nursing courses should contact the Department of Nursing immediately upon notification of acceptance to the college . The applicant to the Department of Nursing must submit all transcripts including high school, school of nursing and any other college or Bible school transcripts directly to the Department of Nursing with the completed application form. These transcripts are in addition to those sent to the college Office of Admissions and Records . 4. A $20.00 non-refundable application fee made payable to Biola College, Department of Baccalaureate Nursing must accompany the application. REGISTERED NURSE APPLICANT ALSO MUST ADHERE TO THE FOLLOWING POLICIES: 5. Initial placement in clinical nursing courses will be made on a space available basis. Applicants for space available will be selected for clinical placement according to the following criteria: date of completion of challenge process, G.P .A., and grades on the challenge exams. 6. The Department of Nursing health form must be completed prior to clinical challenge and clinical nursing. 7. The applicant must complete the required prerequisites as outlined in the Curriculum Guide for the nursing major before entering clinical nursing courses. The applicant may challenge prior to or concurrent with the prerequisites. Transfer credit for non-nursing courses may be granted by the Office of Admissions and Records as indicated in the college catalog. 8. The applicant must be a registered nurse in the United States. An R.N. must request that a report of the State Board Examination scores be sent to the Department of Nursing. 9. All R.N.'s will be required to take Conceptual F amework for Nursing and demonstrate evidence of meeting course objectives . Comparable courses may be evaluated for transfer credit. 10. All R.N.'s will participate in a seminar designed to facilitate socialization into baccalaureate professional nursing. This seminar is necessary to fulfill the requ,rements of Conceptual Framework. It will be taken during the first semester following acceptance into the nursing program. 11. Following notification of acceptance into the Department of Nursing, the R.N. may begin the challenge process: a. This process consists of teacher-made examinations with theory and clinical components. The theory portion must be passed before the clinical component can be taken. b. Information regarding the course objectives, course syllabus and format and style of the examination are available by contacting the instructor of the course to be challenged any time following notification of acceptance into the college. c. The R.N. must challenge 301-302 in sequence before challenging Level II courses. Level II courses may be taken in any sequence. All Level III courses must be taken. Admission into Level III classes is contingent on successful completion of all Level I and II challenges . d . Credit will be granted upon successful completion of the challenge process with a minimum grade of C. e. The challenge fee is $50.00 per exam. The R.N. must register for the challenge exam(s) to be accomplished each semester. f. It is strongly recommended that a full-time student attempt to challenge no more than 2 classes per semester. LICENSED VOCATIONAL NURSE APPLICANTS MUST ALSO ADHERE TO THE FOLLOWING POLICIES: 5. Initial placement in clinical nursing courses will be made on a space available basis. The Department of Nursing health form must be completed prior to clinical challenge and clinical nursing. 7. All L.V.N.'s must take Conceptual Framework for Nursing. The Licensed Vocational Nursing has a choice of one of three options for nursing at Biola College: 1. Generic Program 2. Transfer /Challenge 3. Thirty Unit (non-degree Curriculum).
