OPTION 1. GENERIC PROGRAM The L.V.N. choosing to take the basic generic nursing program should apply as any other student for the program, meeting all prerequisites as outlined in the college catalog and curriculum guide for the nursing major.
OPTION 2. TRANSFER/CHALLENGE a.
The applicant must complete the required prerequisites as outlined in the curriculum guide for the nursing major. Transfer credit for non-nursing courses may be granted by the Office of Admissions and Records as indicated in the college catalog. b. The applicant must be registered in the United States as an L.V.N. or L.P.N. must request that a report of the State Board Examination scores be sent to the Department of Nursing. c. Following notification of acceptance to the Department of Nursing, the L.V.N. may begin the challenge process. 1. This process consists of teacher-made examinations with theory and clinical components . The theory portion must be passed before the clinical component can be taken. 2. A copy of the course objectives, course syllabus and information regarding the format and style of the examination may be obtained from the instructor of the course to be challenged any time following notification of acceptance into the college. 3. The L.V.N. may challenge only Level I clinical nursing courses. These must be taken in sequence and may be challenged one time only . All Level II and III courses must be taken. 4. Credit will be granted upon successful completion of the challenge process with a minimum grade of C. 5. The challenge fee is $50.00 per challenge test. OPTION 3. THIRTY UNIT (NON-DEGREE CURRICULUM) a. Applicants will be evaluated on an individual basis. Transfer credit for non-nursing courses may be granted by the Registrar's Office irrespective of when the courses were completed. b. Successful challenge of Level I nursing courses (NUR 301 and NUR 302 are first year professional nursing courses) must be completed prior to taking Level II or III nursing courses. 1. The process consists of teacher-made examinations with theory and clinical components. The theory portion must be passed before the clinical component can be taken. 2. A copy of the course objectives, course syllabus and information regarding the format and style of the examination may be obtained from the instructor of the course to be challenged any time following notification of acceptance into the college. 3. The L.V.N. or L.P.N. may challenge only Level I clinical nursing courses. These must be taken in sequence and may be challenged one time only. Required courses are listed below. 4. Credit will be granted upon successful completion of the challenge process with a minimum grade of C. 5. The challenge fee is $50.00 per challenge test. The L.V.N. must register for the challenge exam to be accomplished each semester. c. The following courses must be completed prior to taking the R.N. licensure examination: BIO 271 Anatomy 3 units BIO 272 Physiology 4 units BIO 221 Microbiology (Chemistry prerequisites) 4 units NUR 200 Conceptual Framework for Nursing 2 units (spring 1981) NUR 400 Episodic Mental Health Nursing 3 units NUR 410 Nursing of the Family III 12 units NUR 420 Episodic Nursing 2 units Total 30 units
Section 2736.6 of the Laws Relating to Nursing Education-Licensure-Practice (Board of Registe1'ed Nursing, 1977) , requires no more than thirty (30) semester units in nursing and related sciences for licensure as an R.N.
TRANSFER STUDENTS MUST ALSO ADHERE TO THE FOLLOWING POLICIES: 5. Initial placement in clinical nursing courses will be made on a space available basis. 6. Applicants from other educational programs are evaluated on an individual basis. If a given nursing course in a baccalaureate nursing program is comparable to Biola College, Department of Baccalaureate Nursing course, acccording to content and level, credit will be given.
