A TRUE STORY
Too heart-clutching, not to be shared. And if you read it before it’s too good not to read again.
According to a recently published article in an Inc. newsletter, a 7-year-old boy named Thomas wrote to the Lego company asking for a job. His eagerness resulted in his Mother mailing the letter. As one can imagine, his Mother was thrilled with the ex- citement of Thomas’s innocence, as well as concerned about managing Thomas’s expecta- tions. And then…a package arrived from Christian Pau, the vice president and general manager of Lego U.K. and Ireland. Inside was a Lego kit and a handwritten letter. It read as follows: Dear Thomas, Thank you so much for your letter. It is great to see how excited you are for Lego building and your creations look fantastic! We would love your help to design even better products, but unfortunately, all our prod- uct designers are sitting in Billund, which is in Denmark. We would still love to invite you to visit us in our Slough office (together with your sister and parents) for a juice/tea/coffee and a tour of the building. My office is called “Dumbledore’s Office” -- [like] the box attached.

That may have been a brilliant marketing strategy, but for a 7-year-old, it was surely some- thing more. Thomas mattered. he had been heard, acknowledged, and offered an open invitation to future possibilities.
The value of that gesture was priceless.
