The Heart of the Workshop

“Designers and architects know they can come to us with their wildest ideas, and we’ll say, ‘Okay, let’s figure out how to make that work.’” She points to a complex project in Lake Toxaway for Platt Architecture. “We did these really intricate cabinets and this incredible hidden bar area,” she says. “The bar was in its own box, masked by this solid wood window panel. When it opened, you could see the bar; when it closed, it looked like built-in furniture. It’s those little hidden details clients love.” Another standout was a curved staircase with custom wainscoting for a private residence. “Making a curve out of straight lines was really quite the challenge,” Karla admits. “It took so much effort and ingenuity -but the end result was beautiful. It had a hand rail built right into the wainscoting.”
