“We’re not going to double in size in ten years,” she says. “We want to be smart about the projects we take on. We want them to test us, challenge our abilities - but we want to do them mindfully. Not with a production mindset, but a craft mindset.”

That choice, she believes, is part of their responsibility to their region.

“We live in this place of incredible natural beauty,” Karla says. “We all hike, bike, love these mountains. So, we feel this pull to preserve them. We want to build, but build consciously.” The Legacy in the Grain Ask Karla what she hopes people will remember about Architectural Woodcraft, and she doesn’t mention awards or recognition. She talks instead about the invisible grace of everyday things. “These are the pieces you touch every day. They’re kind of unseen forces in a house - but they shape how people live.” 123
