In the heart of West Asheville, Nicholson and Sun is doing something radical in the most practical way possible: building smarter, not louder. There are no flashy technologies or futuristic facades. What you’ll find instead are clean lines, simple materials, and a relentless focus on one thing - performance. “We really care about global warming,” says Donald Nicholson. “And we thought, maybe this is a sector where we could address that. We knew the space, we knew the science—and we saw that not much was changing.” Founded in 2013 after a family-built vacation home in the North Carolina mountains sparked a revelation, Nicholson and Sun blends tradition with innovation. The company’s roots are deep, informed by generations of builders - and sharpened by the mind of Donald’s father, a theoretical physicist whose scientific rigor still shapes their methods. “My father is the mind behind all of this,” Donald says. “I’m just an instrument, the first follower behind it.” But Nicholson and Sun’s mission is not about nostalgia. It’s about impact. And that impact begins with how they define their purpose. Smart Building Over Green Labels
