Flint Group and Air Motion Systems partnered to develop, test and introduce a line of LED-curable low-migration inks for in-mold labels that meet strict regulations for inks intended for food-packag- ing applications. DiTrolio Flexographic Institute , Broadview, Illi- nois, was forced to close down, 17 years after open- ing its door. Company founder Vince DiTrolio started the school as a way to introduce highly skilled and trained operators into the flexographic industry. Multi Packaging acquired AJS Labels based in Little- hampton and Featherstone UK.Additionally, Multi Pack- aging acquired i3 Plastic Cards, based in Dallas,Texas. Uteco completed its first two mid-web Onyx XS platform installations in North America. Popular Ink located in Dallas, Texas, known as a traditional nar- row web manufacturer in the label industry, installed its first 32-inch-wide water-based central impression flexo press.Aladdin Packaging located in Long Island, NewYork, installed a new mid-web Onyx XS 40-inch- wide press for solvent ink print. Platinum Equity signed a definitive agreement to sell Mactac Americas, LLC, to Lintec Corporation in a transaction valued at approximately $375 million. American Packaging Corporation announced plans to build a 350,000-square-foot manufacturing plant in Chili, New York.The company planned to in- vest nearly $170 million in this project. Amcor acquired Hebei Qite Packing Co. Ltd. in Northern China for $28 million. GSI Technologies , based in Burr Ridge, Illinois, sold its Industrial Graphics business unit, the label, nameplate and overlay division, to Cypress Multi- graphics, LLC, headquartered in Tinley Park, Illinois. Inland invested in Flexo Wash technology for anilox cleaning, plate washing, and parts washing in multiple facilities. The Printing Plant , Cincinnati, Ohio, became the first North American company to install the PANORA- MA digital press line from Nilpeter. Diversified Labeling Solutions (DLS) acquired a hybrid digital press for its Atlanta, Georgia, location. Euroflex , Zwolle, Netherlands, invested in a Uteco Crystal CI flexo press. The printing press has a web width of 1,320 mm and is equipped with 8 printing units. Sonoco announced it would be investing $20 mil- lion in the development of a new packaging center to support Duracell’s new North America battery packaging operation near Atlanta, Georgia. Sonoco will install and operate primary packaging equip- ment at the new center.
