Master of Theology Program

thesis distributed as follows:

10 units in the major department; 6 units in the major department or closely related areas approved by the major advisor; 10 units in any area; Thesis written in the major department. Students are required to take a minimum of 14 units in Th.M. courses numbered in the 800 series, with the remainder at the 600 and 700 levels. Additional assignments will be made in the latter courses to make the work ofTh.M. character. At the discretion of the advisor, a maximum of four units in any department at any level may be credited toward the course requirement. No more than four units advanced standing from a recognized school will be accepted toward fulfillment of the residence requirement. The time limit for the completion of the program of study is a minimum of one year and a maximum of three, except that majors in missions may have a maximum of six years to allow a term of missionary service between the start and conclusion of the pro­ gram. The thesis must be on an acceptable subject in the major field. Two copies, the original and one copy, are presented to the library for binding. All theses, whether acceptable or not, be­ come the property of Talbot Seminary. A working knowledge of French or German is required of stu­ dents seeking the Th.M. degree in the department of semitics and Old Testament. This requirement may be satisfied in one of the following ways: 1) two years of college level instruction with a grade of B or better; 2) a satisfactory score on an examination administered by the department. Students must fulfill this re­ quirement sometime during the first 16 units of work in order to continue in the program. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS No grade of less than B- will be credited toward the degree and no grade points are accumulated for such a course. The student will become a candidate for the degree upon successful comple­ tion of 12 units of work by recommendation of the Graduate Committee. The candidate must pass written comprehensive ex­ aminations over his major field of study. Candidates for degrees must manifest promise of usefulness in the gospel ministry, exhibit exemplary and consistent Christian character, and evi­ dence sound theological beliefs in accordance with the semi­ nary's doctrinal statement.

PURPOSE The Master of Theology program is designed to provide the student with the opportunity to acquire a specialized knowledge in some area of theological learning, to prepare him for further graduate study and to equip him for better leadership in the service of Jesus Christ. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS The student must present acceptable Bachelor of Arts and Bache­ lor of Divinity or Master of Divinity degrees. Specifically, he must have maintained at least a 3.25 average in his M.Div. program, and have had at least eight semester hours of Greek beyond beginning Greek and 12 semester hours of Hebrew. He must have the personal qualifications necessary for a minister of Christ, including promise of future usefulness. He must be spiritually qualified by rendering evidence of a born-again ex­ perience and a consistent Christian manner of life. Graduates of other seminaries must file the normal application with the office of admissions and records. Graduates of Talbot may file for admission by submitting a written request to the Graduate Committee, in care of the registrar. RESIDENCE REQUIREMENTS Majors in the Th.M. are offered in the departments of Bible exposition, systematic theology, semitics and Old Testament, New Testament language and literature, missions and practical theology. The program consists of 26 units of class work plus a
