INTERNSHIP IN CLINICAL

PSYCHOLOGY (2) A seminar on teaching methods including the development of course objectives , outlines, lectures and evaluations. Major emphasis is placed on the examination of the various teaching methods available to the teacher of psychology. RPSY 703 ORGANIZATION AND ADMINISTRATION OF PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES (2) A seminar dealing with administrative issues such as personnel , finances , community relations and supervision. RPSY 704 ADVANCED RESEARCH DESIGN (3) A continuation of PSY 601 for students interested in pursuing dissertation research. The course includes advanced study of univariate and multivariate analysis of variance, regression analysis, canonical and discriminant analysis , and factor analy­ sis . Required , Ph.D. Prerequisite: RPSY 60 I. RPSY 705 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY (2 or 3) A general overview of current research on the use and effective­ ness of psychotropic medication in the treatment of the psycho­ ses, neuroses and other emotional disorders. Consultation and class presentations by area psychiatrists. Prerequisite: RPSY 607 or equivalent. RPSY 709 CURRENT ISSUES IN PSYCHOLOGY ( I or 2) Intensive focus is given to a selected topic of contemporary interest such as the psychology of women, forensic psychology, National Health Care and psychological services. RPSY 7 IO SPECIAL TECHNIQUES IN CLINICAL PRACTICE (2) Intensive consideration of a specific technique utilized in modem clinical practice and requiring specialized training. A single major technique, such as the Halstead-Reitan Adult Neuropsy­ chological Battery or clinical hypnosis , will be the focus each time this course is offered. RPSY 711 SEMINAR IN ETHICAL AND PROFESSIONAL ISSUES (2) A study of the ethics of professional psychology and relationships to other professional individuals and organizations. Special atten­ tion is given to the American Psychological Association ' s Code of Ethics. Required. RPSY 712 INDEPENDENT STUDY (1-3) Individual work, directed reading or special problems in psychol­ ogy. Such work must be done with the approval and supervision of a faculty professor of record. The student is expected to submit a detailed course proposal and bibliography with a learning con­ tract form available from the registrar's office. Required courses may not be taken through independent study. RPSY 715 TRAINING THERAPY (GROUP) (0) For official indication on the student's transcript of required personal growth experience through group training therapy. Required.for all doctoral programs. RPSY 716 TRAINING THERAPY (INDIVIDUAL) (0) For official indication on the student's transcript of required personal growth experience through an individual training ther­ apy. Required for all doctoral programs . RPSY 721 DISSERTATION RESEARCH (1-18) Planning and implementation of a research project including literature review, problem definition, hypothesis formation, de­ sign , and implementation of field research , data analysis , and report writing. The student ' s dissertation research is supervised by a faculty chairman and committee. The final stage requires the student to successfully sustain an Oral Defense of the disserta­ tion. Required for all doctoral programs.

PSYCHOLOGY (0) Professional experience of not less than 1500 hours in an in­ ternship facility approved by the Professional Training Com­ mittee. Prerequisites: Successful completion of comprehensive examinations , course requirements, professional qualifying ex­ amination (Psy.D.) or professional interview (Ph.D.) , and approval of a dissertation proposal. Required for all doctoral programs. PSYCHOTHERAPY LABORATORY COURSES This series of elective courses is designed to effect a working integration of conceptual and experimental aspects of psychother­ apy. Ph.D. students are required to take 12 units of PLB courses and Psy.D. students , 21 units. Each course includes both course work and supervised clinical experience within the psychother­ apy model followed in the specific course. Completion of RPSY 603 and RPSY 690 is required before enrollment in these courses is permitted . RPLB 605 BEHAVIOR THERAPY (3) The observation , assessment and modification of human be­ havior , including operant, respondent and cognitive models. Emp:1asis is on supervised client interaction. Prerequisite: RPSY 604 and permission of instructor. RPLB 613 PSYCHOTHERAPY WITH THE ADOLESCENT (3) Techniques and problems in psychotherapy with adolescents. Special attention is focused on the implications of developmental processes of adolescence on treatment approaches . Prerequisite: permission of instructor. RPLB 631 PSYCHODYNAMIC THERAPY I (3) An in-depth study of the process of therapy giving special atten­ tion to the concepts of transference, countertransference , resist­ ance and interpretation. Prerequisite: RPSY 552 , participation in individual training therapy and permission of instructor. Enroll­ ment must be planned for both RPLB 631 and RPLB 632. RPLB 632 PSYCHODYNAMIC THERAPY II (3) Continuation of RPLB 631. Prerequisites: RPLB 631 and permis­ sion of the instructor. RPLB 635 PSYCHOLOGY OF EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN (3) Assessment and treatment strateg ic for all of the major handicap­ ping categories as currently defined by the Bureau of Education for the Handicapped. Emphasis is on supervised client interac­ tion. Prerequisites: RPSY 641. RPLB 641 PSYCHOTHERAPY WITH GROUPS (3) The essentials of the group psychotherapy process are examined and related to current modalities in psychotherapy and general group phenomena. RPLB 642 PSYCHOTHERAPY WITH CHILDREN (3) The nature and treatment of common emotional and behavioral problems of childhood. Special attention is given to parent counseling. Prerequisites: RPSY 604, RPSY 641 and permission of instructor. RPLB 653 VOCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND PSYCHOTHERAPY (3) A study of vocational development and vocational choice as a point of focus in psychotherapy. Attention is given to values continued 155
