Probation indicates a period of trial , and the student must achieve better than a 2.0 average the subsequent semester or face the possibility of being disqualified. A student is restricted from participation in extra-curricular university activi ties , and the academic load will be limited during this period of probation to a maximum of thirteen units each semester. Students on academic probation must participate in the Learning Assist ance Program. Academic Dismissal: A student may be disqualified at any time if his grades are very low in one semester or if he has not achieved minimum grades for two successive semesters. A student who is considered for dismissal may be allowed to continue on strict probation as determined by the Academic Standards Committee. A disqualified student may apply for re-admission only after a full year has elapsed. After one year, he may apply for re-admission only if evidence is given which indicates that chances for scholas tic success are good. A student who has been twice disqualified may not be re-admitted. SCHOOL HONORS Students achieving a semester grade point average of 3 .5 or better while enrolled in nine or more units will be placed on the semes ter's Dean's List. For graduation honors , students completing their course with a grade point average of 3. 5 are graduated Cum Laude . Students with a 3. 7 average are graduated Magna Cum Laude. Students with a 3.9 average are graduated Summa Cum Laude. In order to graduate with honors from Biola University, at least 60 units must be earned in residence at this school. Each year elections to membership in the Biola chapter of Delta Epsilon Chi, a national honor society of schools affiliated with the American Association of Bible Colleges, are made from the graduating class . Such membership is limited to seven percent of the graduating class and is based on scholastic performance as well as Christan life and service. A ' ' UW' ' indicates an unofficial withdrawal. Students who regis ter but do not attend classes are automatically given the grade of "UW" which will influence the grade point average the same as an F. A temporary mark of " RD " (report delayed) will be used in special cases where an extension is warranted and approved by the dean of students office. The grade point average of a student is obtained by dividing the total number of units attempted at Biola University into the total number of grade points obtained at Biola . To graduate, a student must have at least twice as many grade points as units in the total credit value of all courses undertaken by him and a 2.00 grade point average in the major field. A student will be permitted to repeat a course in which he has received either an For a D grade . Students may repeat courses in which they have earned a C or B, but must confer with the dean of admissions and records or the director of records . The better grade will be the only one used in computing the cumulative grade point average at Biola University. The units will be counted only once. Grade reports will be issued to students from the office of admis sions and records. GRADE CHANGES: It is the students' responsibility to bring any error in grades to the attention of the instructor within one semester following the issued grade . Grade changes are only allowable for computational or recording errors and must be corrected no later than the last day of classes of the next full term semester. ACADEMIC STANDARDS With the exception of nursing , a grade of D is accepted as a passing grade in a single course, although such quality of work in general is at no point a criterion of progress from level to level. A minimum average grade ofC is necessary to graduate. Still higher minimums are required before admission to student teaching and nursing. A G. P.A. of 2. 5 is required for admission to the nursing program . Students receiving less than a C grade in any nursing course must repeat the course to progress in nursing. Students who transfer units from other institutions must maintain an aver age grade of C in all work completed at Biola University as a requirement for graduation. All students must have a minimum of a "C" average (2.0) in their major field.
