110 Studies in Criticism and Composition Students with an SAT of less than 400 must take and pass Basic English Workshop within the first year of residence (before English 110) . If a student wishes to challenge his SAT score he may take a Diagnostic Test administered by the English Depart­ ment. If he fails this test , he must take Basic English Workshop, English 090 (three semester hours with no credit toward gradua­ tion). FINE ARTS Students with two years of a high school language must take the 102 and 201 sections of the same language in order to complete the BA requirement. If the student needs to review prior course work he should either audit IO1 or forfeit all previous language experience by taking the first semester course for credit. Exceptions to this policy are noted under the appropriate depart­ ments (p lease note the unit difference per semester for classical languages) . International students for whom English is a second language need not take a foreign language . (If you take Greek for your language and are not a Bible major , you must take through the 102 level for a B.S .) HISTORY/ POLITICAL SCIENCE 8 units History 100 The West and the World (four units) required. Students who may have completed three units of world civiliza­ tion are advised to take History I IO Themes in Western Civiliza­ tion . Alternate route for meeting History JOO is Humanities 230, interdisciplinary Studies, which incorporates at least one other general education offering. See Humanities listing under the general education requirements. History 200 United States History (four units ) OR Political Science 200 Survey of American Government (four units) Students who may have completed three units of United States history or United States government are advised to take History

Biola University is committed to a strong biblical emphasis . A firm foundation in the Word of God is imperative for all God's servants, regardless of what type of ministry they may enter. A total of 30 units of biblical studies and theology must be included in the program of each student according to the requirements of the American Association of Bible Colleges. Each student must take at least one course each semester until he has fulfi lled the requirement. The following are required: OLD TESTAMENT STUDIES IOI Early Hebrew History 3 units 102 Later Hebrew History 3 units NEW TESTAMENT STUDIES 201 New Testament Literature I 3 unit s 202 New Testament Literature II 3 unit s 300 Early Christian History - Acts 3 units THEOLOGICAL STUDIES 100 Biblical Foundations 3 units 300 God, Christ and the Holy Spirit 3 units 310 Man, Sin and Salvation 3 units 410 Interpretive Systems , the 3 units Church and Last Things Elective in biblical or theological studies 3 units Note: Students who select a liberal arts major may count only a total of 30 units of biblical studies and theology toward the required units for a degree. The maximum limit for recognized correspondence courses in Bible is six units. Part-time students (less than 12 units per semester) are required to include at least one biblical studies and theology course within each 15 units completed at Biot a University unless the 30 unit requirement has been met. Part-time students seeking a degree from Biola University must complete the entire requirement as outlined above.

GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENT

It is the purpose of the general education requirement to introduce the student to areas of study that mature the mind , open new vistas of appreciation and understanding, enrich social relationships and develop skills and aptitudes that can aid the student in furthering his personal and social usefulness. Since it is the purpose of a liberal arts education to create a broad base upon which to build one's continuing education, the student is allowed to select from the following courses to build hi s own base in the liberal arts. The courses that meet the general education requirement are the following: COMMUNICATION 3 unit s Any one of the following will meet this requirement. 100 Introduction to Communication 170 Principles and Types of Discussion 181 Introduction to Argumentation and Debate 220 Voice and Articulation 280 Oral Interpretation Permission of the department is required for any other course to meet the general education requirement.
