NEW TESTAMENT STUDIES Required Courses For All Students 201 NEW TESTAMENT LITERATURE I (3)

BIBLE EMPHASIS: Majors desiring to have a general knowl­ edge of the whole Bible are required to take the following courses: Romans (NT 320) , Old Testament or New Testament Theology (OT 450 , NT 450) , six units upper division Old Testa­ ment electives , six units upper division New Testament electives , six units upper division Old Testament or New Testament or theology electives , CE 200 , History 321 and Greek 101-102 and 201-202. PRE-SEMINARY EMPHASIS: Majors desiring a biblical education or a foundation for further studies in seminary are required to take: Romans (NT 320), Old Testament or New Testament Theology (OT 450 , NT 450) , six units upper division Old Testament electives, six units upper division New Testament electives, three units upper division Old Testament or New Testa­ ment or theology electives. Logic (PH 205) or Ethics (PH 305), Communication 385 or 386 or 478 , History 321 , Music 440 , Sociology 402, Business 372 and Greek 101-102 and 201-202 .

Literature of the four gospels; use of narrative , historical method , sources ; authorship and content of each gospel; the synoptic problem and contribution of each gospel to the knowledge of Christ. 202 NEW TESTAMENT LITERATURE II (3) Epistolary form , content, theological contribution , canomc1ty and interpretation; historical background in comparison with the book of Acts. 300 EARLY CHRISTIAN HISTORY - ACTS (3) The book of Acts with emphasis on the missionary philosophy and activity of the early church and its current application to missions. Elective Courses 310 ADVANCED STUDIES IN THE GOSPELS (3) In-depth study of one of the gospels, or detailed consideration of

problems related to several or all of the gospels. 320 ADVANCED STUDIES IN EPISTOLARY LITERATURE (3)

OLD TESTAMENT STUDIES Required Courses For All Students 101 EARLY HEBREW HISTORY (3 )

Selected epistles considering genuineness and authenticity , ex­ position of the text and investigation of problem passages . 420 ADVANCED STUDIES IN NEW TESTAMENT ESCHATOLOGICAL LITERATURE (3) New Testament prophetic texts such as Matthew 24 and 25, I and II Thessalonians and Revelation. 430 ADVANCED STUDIES IN NEW TESTAMENT HISTORY AND THEOLOGY (3) Religious , cultural , political and theological investigation of key portions of the New Testament. 450 NEW TESTAMENT THEOLOGY (3) Introduction to the history of New Testament theology; a consid­ eration of the basic themes developed in the New Testament from the standpoint of biblical theology. An in-depth study of a writer , writers or kind of literature in the New Testament may form a portion of the course.

A history of Israel's beginnings through the united kingdom , including matters of authorship , dating and the historical­ theological setting of the Pentateuch and early historical books. 102 LATER HEBREW HISTORY (3) A continuation of Israel's history from the divided kingdom through the post-exilic period , including matters of authorship , dating and historical-theological setting of the later historical books, poetic and wisdom literature and the prophetic books. Elective Courses 300 ADVANCED STUDIES IN OLD TESTAMENT HISTORY AND THEOLOGY (3) Religious , cultural , political and theological investigations of Israelite history in key portions of the Old Testament. 310 STUDIES IN BIBLICAL BACKGROUNDS (3) The contributions of archaeology , historical geography , manners and customs in light of specific Biblical texts. 430 ADVANCED STUDIES IN OLD TESTAMENT POETIC AND WISDOM LITERATURE (3) Various types of poetic and wisdom literatures emphasizing poetic devices and principles of interpretation . 440 ADVANCED STUDIES IN OLD TESTAMENT PROPHECY (3) Selections from the major or minor prophets in light of literary , historical and theological considerations . 450 OLD TESTAMENT THEOLOGY (3 ) Introduction to the history of the discipline ; a consideration of the basic themes developed in the Old Testament from the standpoint of biblical theology. An in-depth study of a limited group of writers , themes , or a selection of literature from a particular period of Israel's history may form a portion of the course.

GENERAL BIBLICAL STUDIES (Electives) 120 GUIDED STUDY (1-3)

For those needing odd units to complete their Bible requirement. Readings with written reports on biblical and /or theological sub­ jects. Prerequisite: consent of department chair. 220 INDUCTIVE BIBLE STUDY (3) Inductive study applied to biblical narrative and epistolary litera­ ture. 470 BIBLICAL SEMINAR (3) Small group studies utilizing techniques of problem solving, research , formal writing and communication of results. Pre­ requisite: consent. 480 BIBLICAL RESEARCH (1-3) Traditional and contemporary problems in biblical areas. Pre­ requisite: consent.
