In addition to the general policies, the following policies apply to the licensed vocational nurse: I. The applicant must be a licensed vocational nurse or licensed practical nurse in the United States. Graduates of regionally accredited nursing programs in the process of obtaining licensure will be admitted on provisional status. 2. The applicant may take the 30 unit curricu lum or the trans­ fer-challenge curriculum.

Information regarding the course objectives , course syllabus and format and style of the examination are available by contacting the instructor of the course to be challenged any time following notification of acceptance into the university . Candidates for the challenge process have the option of scheduling the examinations in such a way that if unsuccessful, subsequent enrollment in the course is possible. The challenge fee is $50 per exam. Candidates must register for the challenge exam(s) to be accomplished each semester.

OPTION I: THIRTY UNIT CURRICULUM

I. This option permits the LVN to take nursing and related science courses in order to qualify for the California reg­ istered nurse licensing examination. Transfer into the de­ gree program is possible . 2 . The applicant's portfolio will be evaluated on an individual basis. Academic credit earned in regionally accredited in­ stitutions of higher education for comparable prelicensure courses will be accepted for transfer.

e. Course credit will be granted upon successful com­ pletion of the challenge exam with a minimum grade of C. Courses may be challenged one time only. 10. It is strongly recommended that a full time student attempt to challenge no more than two classes per semester. 11. Specific policies related to RN's , LVN's or LPN's follow. Transfer-challenge students from other nursing programs or other health profession backgrounds will be evaluated individually. 12. Transfer students choosing to take the basic generic nursing program should apply as any other student for the program, meeting all prerequisites as outlined in the university cata­ log and Standard Curriculum Chart for the nursing major. Graduates of regionally accredited nursing pro­ grams in the process of obtaining licensure will be admitted on provisional status. 2. All RN's will participate in a transition seminar course designed to facilitate socialization into baccalaureate pro­ fessional nursing. It will be taken during the first year following acceptance into the nursing program.

Nursing 301 and 302 (fi rst year professional nursing courses prerequisite to second year courses) may be chal­ lenged . The following courses must be completed prior to taking the RN licensure examination: *BIO 272 Physiology 4 units *BIO 221 Microbiology 4 units NUR 320 Directed Individual Studies 1 unit NUR 400 Episodic Mental Health Nursing 4 units NUR 410 Nursing of the Family III 12 units NUR 420 Episodic Nursing 5 units 30 units *Transfer credit will be granted.

OPTION II: TRANSFER-CHALLENGE

I . All LVN 's or LPN' s will participate in a transition seminar course designed to facilitate socialization into baccalaure­ ate professional nursing. It will be taken during the first year following acceptance into the nursing program. 2. Nursing 301 and 302 must be challenged in sequence. Level II courses may be challenged based on individual portfolio evaluation. All Level III courses must be taken.

Nursing 301 and 302 must be challenged in sequence be­ fore challenging Level II courses. Level II courses may be taken in any sequence. All Level III courses must be taken . Admission into Level III classes is contingent on successful completion of _all Level I and II challenges.
