I thought, “I ’ve come to the end of my rope.” But the Lord had arranged everything, and He fixed it all beau tifully. So I passed on from that course. The second course is Humility I. I was quite a proud individual. I had never worked before. But now I obtained work in a cafeteria, carrying trays. Well, it was a little too much to expect, it seemed to me. I had come expect ing some work such as library work, or work in an office—but to carry trays was a blow to my pride. But the Lord is taking me through this course, and I find it of great benefit to me. Then there are the real study courses to be found in the catalogue. I had had three years at the University of Washing ton and the College of Science. But I had only a blind faith. If anyone had questioned my stand I don’t believe I could have given a very intelligent answer or reason. The Lord is making things wonderfully clear to me through the Doctrine, Synthesis, Biblical Introduction and other classes in the regular course. The Lord has richly blessed me. |— o— An Applied Course in Personal Work S OME of the young men students of the Bible Institute have very interesting stories to tell of the Lord’s lead ing along the line of personal work among the people with whom they work. One young man, who has been very anxious to win souls for the Lord and is eager to apply some of the instruction of the Personal Work course, has been praying earnestly that the Lord would use him in the lunch-stand in which he works at night. As he serves coffee and doughnuts he is ever on the alert to find an opening to tell people about Jesus Christ. Some of his patrons are of the leisurely type and he has the opportun ity of having quite long conversations with them regard ing spiritual things. Some are always in a hurry so that the conversation can be only a short one. He hands out dozens of tracts and praises the Lord that he has had the joy of hearing some of his patrons confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. Fruits of Evening Bible Study M R. W. H. PIKE, Secretary of the Evening School of the Bible Institute, recently reported the following interesting facts to a company of interested friends: Most of you know that the purpose of the Evening School is to give to that company of men and women who work all day, maintaining themselves and their families, a knowledge of the English Bible, and a practical knowl edge of Bible methods of Christian work. The personnel of the Evening School has as great a variety as the world itself, because we have almost every trade and profession represented in it. The other Monday evening at the Report Meeting of the Evening School I asked how many had had the priv ilege of leading some soul to the Lord. A draftsman from the City Engineer’s office arose and told of two souls he had led to Christ. A cashier rose and told of how he spent Sunday after noon down in the Juvenile Hall speaking to the boys. He said that when he gave the invitation one boy started, soon 12, then he lost count, after that about 14 took their stand for Christ. A roof salesman told about four who came out for Christ where he preaches.

A laborer told of how one man was led to the Lord through his preaching at the City Mission. The practical work is entirely voluntary, yet the results are amazing, and I wonder how they find time to do what they do. News From th e Boys’ Clubs M ORE or less Christian work is being done among the boys of Junior age and among high-school boys, but very little work of the type that is done by Mr. Mac- Arthur, who has charge of the Boys’ Work of the Bible Institute. Mr. MacArthur and his assistants teach the boys the Bible. There is very little of a social nature in their work, but week after week and month after month the boys are given Bible study of a very definite kind. It is interesting to see how eagerly the boys respond to the Word. One of Mr. MacArthur’s helpers, a young man' who has formerly been in moving-picture work and is now a student at the Institute as well as a helper in the Boys’ work, says: “I am so thankful today that the Lord has seen fit to open the door and lead me into this work. It means a lot to me and I praise Him for the opportunity of working among these boys and telling them the story of Jesus and His love. In the last few weeks I have seen seven boys step out and take Jesus Christ as their Saviour. I hope, by the grace of God, to be able to lead them on in the faith. Our work is of a very definite nature and when the boys take their stand for the Lord they are fully aware of what they are doing. Pray for the extension of the Boys’ Work.” Shop Department Echoes M R. STUCHBERY of the Shop Department, in a recent report says: God works in mysterious ways and uses various means to bring folks to Himself. A friend of mine was up on top of a flagpole here in the city, together with another man. Away up there above the city this friend began telling the other about the love of Jesus Christ. After a while the man took off his cap and just where he sat on the flagpole he opened his heart and accepted Jesus Christ as his Saviour. One day recently a boy was wandering around in Pershing Square, discouraged and contemplating suicide. He heard the chimes on the Bible Institute building play ing, “Where is My Wandering Boy Tonight?” He fol lowed the sound of the chimes and found himself in front of the Institute building. A worker found him there, dealt with him, and he accepted Christ. On one of the trips to the shops the bus carrying the workers and students was hurrying down Ninth Street. A man with a bag of tools hailed the men as they passed, and asked for a ride. They finally decided to take him into the bus, and soon discovered that he was very drunk. He was taken to the shop and deposited near where the meeting was being held. The organ was set up and as the music began he sat up. He listened for twenty-five min utes as the service went on. He was finally dealt with and accepted Christ. It was learned later that he had. come to Los Angeles from Milwaukee and had gotten into sin. His testimony was, “I ’m going back, but I know why God brought me to Los Angeles. I found Jesus Christ.”
