Is College Worth It?

COLLEGE IS A BIG DEAL. BUT AT SWOSU,

IT’S ONE THAT PAYS OFF. Let’s Be Real:

And if you’re worried about costs? SWOSU’s tuition is among the lowest in the region—and we offer scholarships and grants that bring it even lower.

But the value goes beyond money. You’ll find real support, build your confidence, and grow into who you’re meant to be.

I knew SWOSU was the place for me after touring and seeing how amazing the campus is.”

SWOSU gave me more than an education. It gave me a purpose.” LANDON S. Pharmacy, Class of ‘24

So yeah—it’s worth it. Not just because of what it costs. But because of what it gives you.

Why We Love Weatherford. SMALL-TOWN CHARM. BIG-TIME HEART.

Into the Outdoors? You’ll Love It Here.

Hike. Camp. Kayak. Repeat.

There’s just something about this place.

We could tell you we’re just an hour from OKC—to paddle the Boathouse District, bike around Lake Hefner, or check out food trucks at Scissortail Park. But honestly? There’s so much to do right here in western Oklahoma. From backroads to Bricktown, it’s all within reach. See you on the trail.

Weatherford, Oklahoma is one hour west of OKC—close enough for quick trips, but far enough to give you space to grow. “It’s close to home but still lets me be independent,” says Audrey from Yukon.

One of the best parts of going to college in western Oklahoma? You’re never far from your next adventure.

And for Addison, a transfer student from Binger, “It’s a small town, but it has everything I need. I love living here with my friends.”

If you’re the type who needs fresh air, open skies, and space to roam, you’re in the right spot. Around here, outside isn’t just a direction—it’s a lifestyle.

The best part? You don’t feel lost in the crowd. People smile when they pass you on Main. Professors learn your name. The barista remembers your order by week two. It’s that kind of town.

CAMP DUKE is where your Bulldog story kicks off. Held just before fall classes, Camp Duke is a high-energy experience for incoming students to make friends, explore campus life, and build confidence before the first syllabus even drops. Think lake adventures, team games, campfire convos, and tons of laughs. You don’t need to show up knowing anyone. Camp Duke makes it easy to find your people fast. Whether you’re from down the road or across the state, everyone’s in the same boat (sometimes literally, out on Crowder Lake). You’ll meet student leaders who’ve got your back, get the inside scoop on campus traditions, and start feeling like SWOSU is home before classes even begin. It’s more than a camp. It’s your launchpad.

With SWOSU’s endless opportunities for student involvement, I’m learning more than just the skills for a job.” MADISON B. Business Marketing, Class of ‘25

I joined the Hispanic American Leadership Organization my freshman year, and I loved it. I later became president and was so happy to share my Hispanic heritage, not just to our members, but to other students on campus.” NAYELI V. Applied Health Science, Class of ‘24

Financial Aid, Without the Freak-Out Whether it’s updating your aid or finding new scholarships, they’re ready to walk with you. Because at SWOSU, financial aid isn’t just paperwork. It’s people helping you move forward. MEET ANIKA CARR, THE DIRECTOR WHO’S BEEN IN YOUR SHOES

—just hearing the words “financial aid” is enough to send some folks into a panic. All the acronyms, deadlines, and money talk? It can feel overwhelming fast. But at SWOSU, it’s different. Why? Because our Financial Aid team isn’t just a desk full of paperwork. It’s people like Anika Carr.

Her number one message? Just apply.

So many students assume they won’t qualify. Maybe their parents said so, or they just feel like they don’t fit the mold. But I always say—apply anyway. Things can change. And if something unexpected happens, that application can make all the difference.” And if you’re feeling embarrassed to ask for help? Anika wants you to know: “There’s no shame in needing support. Most students on campus receive some kind of aid. We’re here to guide you through it—not to judge.” For Anika, this isn’t just a job. It’s personal. “My mom worked two full-time jobs just so I could live in the dorms for a year. We didn’t have money saved—but financial aid came through. It changed my life. I’ve never forgotten that.” So stop by. Ask questions. Stay as long as you need. You’ll find a team ready to walk alongside you—led by someone who’s walked this path before.

Now as Director of Student Financial Services, Anika leads a team that makes financial aid feel less like a barrier and more like a bridge. “When someone walks into our office confused or stressed, we don’t expect them to have it all figured out,” she says. “We meet them where they are, and we move forward together.” And here’s the thing—we know life doesn’t always follow a plan. Maybe your family’s situation changes. Maybe something unexpected hits. That’s why SWOSU’s financial aid team keeps the door open. “You can always come back and talk to us,” Anika says. “We’re here for the whole journey.” I started out as a work-study student in financial aid when I was in college,” Anika shares. “I’ve been the person asking, ‘What even is FAFSA?’ So when students walk in saying that, I get it. We’ve all been there.”

Confused about financial aid? You’re not alone. We’re here to help.

From First Visit to First Year

Our daughter grew up around SWOSU, but even living in Weatherford, the transition to college felt big. Once she got involved—her sorority, the BCM, Presidents Leadership Class—she found her people. Now, she’s thriving, and we rarely see her... which might be her favorite part!” JULIE S. Mom of Andrea

Addison’s transition to college life was smooth, and we’ve been so impressed by the education and personal connections she’s made. SWOSU’s faculty have helped her grow—and opened doors in the business world that will matter far beyond graduation.” BRIAN S. Dad of Addison

As a parent, watching my child prepare for college has been both an exciting and emotional journey. We chose SWOSU because it offered the right mix of challenge and support. The small class sizes and close-knit feel remind us of the community we love in Weatherford. We’re proud to be a Bulldog family.” KRISTEN R. Mom of Reagan

At SWOSU, safety is a top priority. Our officers are part of the Bulldog family, we’re on campus, in the community, and here for students. We teach safety, train constantly, and work hard to make this a place you can truly call home As a proud mom of four Bulldogs, including two grads and two still here, I don’t just lead the department; I trust it with my own kids. That’s how much SWOSU means to me.” KENDRA BROWN SWOSU Police Chief and sons
