Diary of an HR Manager
Sunday 9.30 a.m. I decided to brunch out, so headed over to the town centre café run by a couple of friends of mine, Peter and Janet. Plenty to think about. Dinner on Thursday had been one of those evenings where everything clicked. The food, the company, and yes, the wine!
Pilar had some great stories of the corporate gigs she’d worked at in the States and Latin America. My own tales were relatively tame by comparison, but we were both laughing by the time the tapas started arriving. I can’t resist tapas at the best of times, and these were excellent: patatas bravas, of course, albondigas caseras – really tasty meatballs, grilled
prawns…the table was full. After a couple of light manzanilla sherries, we added a couple of glasses of house white. We took our time and really got into HR and its problems today, always a lively talking point! We certainly agreed that being independent was so much better for the constitution than being employed. Both of us had quit jobs in the past for ethical reasons.
