SD Worx European Conference 2018 SD WORX’S European Conference, which was held on 6 February in London, brought together a range of industry experts and business leaders to discuss the future of collaboration and how it’s shaping the world of work. This was the theme headlined at the beginning of the conference by Steven Van Hoorebeke, chief executive officer, who put collaboration into the context of global operations, a shifting labour market, pressures to conform to changing regulations and digital transformation. The message was clear: collaboration is crucial to the successful running of any business. The conference was also a chance for the company to debut the prototype of its Digital Assistant (http://bit.ly/2F0lQgg), which can take care of numerous time-consuming administrative tasks that disturb our working lives. A pilot program will be launched in April 2018. Guest speakers – including Dr Marc Teerlink, from SAP and Dr Nicola Millard, at BT – took to the main stage to discuss the future of collaboration. The consensus was that implementing technologies such as artificial intelligence should not be a cause for concern, but instead ought to be embraced to enhance business results. How businesses roll this out to their employees will be critical. The afternoon was divided into breakout sessions, looking at issues ranging from multi-generational collaboration, through to GDPR, achieving success through practical collaboration and how to manage global payroll. Meanwhile, Simon Parsons, director of payments, benefits and compliance strategies at SD Worx UK & Ireland, clarified any misunderstandings or doubts around pending UK payroll legislation. Parsons addressed many key topics from GDPR through to national minimum wage regulation and gender pay gap reporting.

To underscore how effective collaboration can be in delivering solid business results, SD Worx ended the conference by putting the spotlight on its customers and partners. Five categories of excellence awards were given to: Parexel, Ascender, Fidelity, HCA, Odeon. The day raised a number of key considerations, insights and ideas for attendees to take back and work on to drive their businesses forward.
