Have you ever wondered what C h r is tian Science teaches about death , resurrection , m arriage and d i vorce? On these four pages Dr. Louis T . T a lbo t gives a well-documented answer to each of these questions

She had to use her eyes to read. An swer: Jesus said, ‘Having eyes, see ye not?’ I read the inspired page through a higher than mortal sense. As matter, the eye cannot see; and as mortal mind, it is a belief that sees. I may read the Scriptures through a belief of eyesight; but I must spir itually understand them to interpret their Science” (Miscellaneous Writ ings, p. 58). There is absolutely no end to the absurdities of this teaching that there is nothing actual. One final example: “Mortals must emerge from this no tion of material life as all-in-all. They must peck open their shells with Christian Science” (S & H, p. 552, lines 13-18). I must by-pass other denials of Christian Science. She did not believe in a real, personal devil (she suggest ed just dropping “ d” and you'would have “ evil,” the same th ing!); she did not believe in an actual heaven or a real hell (she said we made them here); she did not believe the Holy Spirit was a Person (she said she understood Him to be Christian Science) and she did not believe in true faith or righteousness. Her views on “ animal magnetism” or mesmer ism, by which she explains evil, bor der on witchcraft. This is contained in chapter five of Science and Health. Christian Science and Marriage Now, my friends, I wish to bring the very important subject of the Christian Science teaching in regard to marriage under the lens of Holy Writ. This view has great significance in view of Paul’s words to Timothy, “ Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy;

You know since I was a child, I have been taught I was first a boy and then a man. Mrs. Eddy says if I had thought I was feminine, I would have been a woman. Now here is something really as tounding: “ Food neither strengthens nor weakens the body” (S & H, p. 118, 74th ed.). Of course, since Christian Scien tists appear at the table for their three square meals a day, she had to hasten on and modify this: “Until . . . a more perfect day of understand ing . . . it would be foolish to stop eating” (S & H, p. 387, 74th ed.). I guess she enjoyed her food as much as anybody. She lived to be 89! Their religion never has prevented Chris tian Scientists from enjoying the com forts of matter, such as good cars, comfortable homes and the like. The actual has it over the spiritual there. I have been taught all my life that science was knowledge gained and verified by experience, but Mrs. Eddy says: “ The verity of Mind shows conclusively how it is that matter seems to be, but is not” (S & H, p. 123, line 11). Can you imagine anything more real and material than a rock? Lis ten to this, then: “ But say you, Is a stone spiritual? To erring mortal sense, No! But to unerring spiritual sense, it is a small manifestation of Mind. . . Take away the mortal sense . . . and the stone itself would dis appear” (Miscellaneous Writings, pp. 27, 28). T he paper which you are read he eyes you are using to peruse this article are not real, for this is what Mrs. Eddy said about the eyes: “How does Mrs. Eddy know that she has read and studied correctly, if one must deny the evidences of the senses?

Peace be unto you. But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet. And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat? And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. And he took it, and did eat before them.” Christian Science and the Basic Delusion We have referred many times to this basic delusion of Christian Sci ence that there is no material uni verse. Upon this the anti-Christian doctrines that Mrs. Eddy taught are founded: the denial of Jesus Christ as a real Saviour, of God as a real Person, of sin, sickness and death. Mrs. Eddy in the first writing that came from her pen, in 1870, declared that she was adding the word Science to Christianity for all time. I would like to include a few samples of her “ science:” “ Electricity is not a vital fluid, but an element of mortal mind — the thought-essence that forms the link between what is termed matter and mortal mind” (S & H, p. 35 ,28th. ed.). “ Heat and cold are products of mortal mind” (S & H, p. 374, line 26). In other words, you may live at the North Pole, and if you think it is warm, you will be just as com fortable as if you lived in California. You can live on the Equator and think you are cool, and you will be comfortable. “Matter cannot perform the func tions of Mind. Error says ‘I am man;’ but this belief is mortal and far from actual” (S & H, p. 478, lines 22-24).
