Christian is bound to have a fellow-feel ing for all the members of the household of faith. Helps for the Children Friends of Jesus Love One Another Acts 2 :4 2 -4 7 ; 1 Cor. 1 3 :1 -7 MEMORY VERSE: (Jesus said) "B y this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to an other" (John 13:3 5 ). You remember that last Sunday we talked about the friends of Jesus sharing the good news about Him with others even though it might mean persecution or even death. These first Christians in their daily liv ing showed their love for the Lord Jesus and for other Christians in many ways. All of the believers put their possessions together so that none was poor nor hun gry. Each day they worshiped and prayed together. Their hearts were filled with gladness because they knew the Saviour. Daily others became acquainted with the Lord Jesus; for the lives of the Chris tians were so like the Lord that others wanted to know Him too. Paul wrote to the Christians at Corinth about the life that they should live for their Lord. He reminded them that no matter how talented they might seem to be, nor how many good works they showed to others, unless their lives were guided by love they were worthless. Love made God’s children patient, kind, un selfish, humble and clean in their think ing. In 1 Corinthians thirteen, the word charity does not mean what the word means today. The world of Paul’s day used that word as we use the word love. Read this chapter reading the word love each time that the word charity is used. Are these things true in your life? The Lord Jesus said, “ By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”

Christian Love Pointers on the Lesson

The teacher w ill find in the Scripture passages selected for this lesson a descrip tion of the fellowship of believers in the early church. It will be his privilege to show that these Christians loved each other because they loved the Lord Jesus Christ. The Situation in the Pentecostal Church Acts 2 :4 2 -4 7 Here we see the church throbbing with life and devotion to the Lord and to one another. In many ways it was a model for the church at all times. It was a stedfast church (v. 42). It continued in the instruction which had been given to it by the apostles. It was a praying church (v. 42). It was an awe-stricken church (v. 43). The church kept on being amazed by the work of the Lord through the apostles. It was a selfless church (w . 44, 45). Every member was concerned about the welfare of every other member. So much so that no one cared for personal ownership. The type of communism re ferred to here is totally different from that of godless Russia and her satellites. It was a harmonious church (v. 46). They lived together with an eye single to the glory of the Lord. It is hot certain wheth er the breaking of bread spoken of here, and in v. 42, refers to the love feasts which the early church observed in con nection with the Communion or just the ordinary eating of meals together. The Importance of Christian Love Col. 3 :1 2 -1 6 In this section which deals with things which the Christian should “put on” in his life before the world, it ought to be noted that “ above all these things” (v. 14) love is to have its place. It is the girdle that holds the various parts of the Chris tian’s dress in place. A. T. Robertson says, “ In a succinct way Paul has here put the idea about love set forth so wonder fully in 1 Cor. 13. None of the other parts of the believer’s dress will fit well with out the harmonizing grace of Christian love.” An Exhortation to Christian Love 1 John 4 :7 , 8 Christians are here urged to love one another because as they do this they give evidence of their likeness to God. He is love and those who are born of Him sure ly ought to manifest this outstanding characteristic of His nature. The posses sion of this love is one of the tests where by it can be determined whether or not a person is truly born again. Every true

Prayer is one of the grandest privileges of the child of God. One considers it a great honor to talk with the President of his country or with some outstanding dignitary. How much greater is the priv ilege of an audience with the King of kings! The Manner of Prayer Matt. 6 :5 -8 Prayer should not be offered for the purpose of display. This is the way the hypocrites pray. They like to make a show of their piety. Jesus frowned on
