I am Ramona Waller, Chapter Basileus, and I bring you greetings from my heart as we soar in 2024 to greater heights of service and strengthen our sisterhood. Our chapter is comprised of more than 250 professional, college-educated women who are committed to the mission of our great sisterhood, ‘Service to All Mankind.’ The 2024 DLO administration theme is “DLO LEADS,” and we will continue to implement and foster the programmatic initiatives of our International Supreme Basileus, Dannette Anthony Reed. DLO LEADS by illuminating leadership, elevating excellence, delivering dynamic and sensational service to the Caddo, Bossier, and Desoto Parish of North Louisiana. Founders’ Day AKA DLO soared to greater heights at our Founders‘ Day Soiree which was themed, “Sorors Still Soaring.” Eleven honorees were recognized for a range of 25 years, 50 years, 65 years and 75 years of service. Many thanks to all our members, our family members, “Honey-Dos” and community that continue to support our service. AKA Day of Service 2024 Annually, AKA DLO participates in AKA Day of Service, which honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This year, the chapter’s service project consisted of donating socks and throws to BTW Rehabilitation Center and Heritage Manor South. Over 300 throws and socks were donated to the residents of the facilities.

During the first half of the year, AKA DLO’s Build Our Economic Wealth Committee hosted multiple activities to support economic programming. Money Talks: A Youth Financial Literacy Seminar was held during April, which is National Financial Literacy Month. The youth enjoyed a very engaging presentation from Alicia White, MBA. Many thanks to our partners Mount Canaan Youth Ministry & the City of Shreveport Financial Empowerment Initiatives. In addition, each month at chapter meeting, two business owners from the chapter are featured. The Build Our Economic Wealth Committee is chaired by Von Jennings.

AKA DLO kicked off this year’s Youth Leadership Institute (YLI) at Ivy Crown Community Services in Shreveport, Louisiana. YLI is a youth led and highly interactive leadership development program designed to empower and engage youth, ages 11 - 13. Follow us for more updates on our leadership training & activities. YLI is chaired by Shelia Lester.

AKA DLO was honored to bring AKA CHIPP to Caddo Heights Elementary! AKA CHIPP (Childhood Hunger Initiative Power Pack) addresses childhood hunger by providing “power packs” for children to eat over the weekend & holidays. AKA CHIPP is chaired Kim Hinckson.

“”Soaring to Greater Heights of Service & Sisterhood”” has six initiatives. Strengthen Our Sisterhood serves as the administration’s “Foundation Initiative” as we strengthen our bonds to support our service mission. Sisterly Relations is chaired by Lashon Anderson.

AKA DLO’s Enhance Our Environment Committee employs strategies to optimize our collective ability to improve and protect the environment. Specifically, we prioritize activities that promote the adoption of more sustainable and responsible practices. Locally, one of these projects include support of the Cedar Grove Garden of Love community project.

AKA DLO’s Social Justice Committee engaged the community through multiple platforms during a recent election in Caddo Parish. Members participated in voter registration drives, “GOTV” drives, as well as the annual high voter registration event. The Social Justice Committee is chaired by Allison Washington.

AKA DLO served as a community partner to the Links' Black Family Wellness Expo and shared information from three of its targeted programmatic areas: Empower Our Families, Advocate Social Justice, and Uplift Our Local Community. On Saturday, April 20th, AKA DLO hosted a luncheon which honored high school scholars, merit scholars, and a top SUSLA student. Delta Lambda Omega Chapter will give twelve scholarships in honor of its charter members, first initiates, first Regional Director, 22nd Regional Director, and a namesake scholarship. Tawana Beaudion served as the event's chairman along with co- chairmen Anntarri Vinson and Dr. Jaleesa Harris.

AKA DLO’s Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) Essay Winners were recognized at the Shreveport Mayor’s Commission for Women Luncheon.
