P. MURPHY PLANT PRIDES ITSELF IN COMPLETING EXCEPTIONAL GROUND WORKS… GROUND WORKS
D ungannon-based contractor, P. Murphy Plant, carried out deep drainage and a variety of other ground works at the sometimes- challenging Enniskillen Workhouse site. Storm drainage was completed around the perimeter of the building and a new foul drain was connected to the existing foul. The team from P. Murphy Plant also did the hardcore prep work for all paving and screed that surrounds the building, prepped for the fencing, installed two concrete plinths for the gas tanks, put in the kerbing and removed soil off-site. Peter Murphy, Director, said the historical site threw up some geographical challenges, “While digging the storm and foul drain we encountered a lot of rock at the top end of the site which had to be broken up and removed by digger; then we discovered bog ground at the lower end of the site. The diggers had to sit on specialist matting on top of the
boggy surface to complete the drainage digging.” Along with groundworks, P. Murphy Plant has extensive expertise in providing civil engineering services, plant hire and site clearance. Commenting on the completed project, Peter said, “This was a very interesting job to be involved with, and we learned a lot about what life was like at the workhouse when it was fully functioning during the Victorian period. It’s good to see it restored and used to keep that historical record alive for future generations.”
Peter began his career as a sub contractor working for the main
contractor, QMAC Construction and is “delighted” to continue his relationship with them as a trusted sub-contractor.
