CENTRO DE OPERACIONES SUR Y TORRE DE CONTROL DEL TÚNEL FERROVIARIO DE GOTTARDO South operations center and control tower of the Gotthard railway tunnel Polleggio, Ticino, Suiza, 2016 Llamado Periscopio, el edificio está a 800 m de la entrada del túnel, entre la nueva ruta de la Via San Gottardo y la línea ferroviaria. Es un bloque de planta trapezoidal formado por un prisma vertical puesto en la diagonal (el tronco), sobre el cual se posa un volumen horizontal que muestra la silueta en proyección (la losa). La forma de la torre muta según la perspectiva de las vistas. En el ‘tronco’ se ubicaron las oficinas y en el volumen superior la sala de control y seguridad. La sala de control es lo más espectacular del edificio: un espacio de triple altura con terrazas cayendo hacia una gran ventana que se abre a la zona ferroviaria. Called the Periscope, the building is 800 meters from the entrance of the tunnel, between the new route of Via San Gottardo and the railway line. It is a block with a trapezoidal plan formed by a vertical prism placed on the diagonal (the trunk), on which a horizontal volume is placed that shows the silhouette in projection (the slab). The shape of the tower changes according to the perspective of the view. The offices were placed in the ‘trunk’ and the control and security room in the upper volume. The control room is the most spectacular element of the building: a triple height space with terraces falling towards a large window that opens onto the railway area.
