el arquitecto Ramón Alfonso Méndez Brignardello (1928-2019) Nació en Santiago el 11 de noviembre de 1928. Estudió arquitectura en la Universidad de Chile entre 1947 y 1953. Se casó con Rosita Guzmán Robinson, con quien tuvo tres hijos. Tras titularse, trabajó un año en la Corporación de la Vivienda y luego, con el arquitecto Jaime Sanfuentes Yrarrázaval. En 1955 fundó la oficina “Diseños Generales” junto a Hernán Montecinos, Vladimir Pereda y Paula Beu- chat, sociedad que duró hasta 1975. Durante el gobierno de Salvador Allende se le encomendó el Servicio Médico Dental para los alumnos de la Universidad de Chile (SED- MA) que se terminó de construir en 1975. Un año después ganó una beca para estudiar Ordenamiento Territorial en el Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de Francia. Fue vi- cedecano de la Universidad de Chile entre los años 1960 y 1984. Presidió la delegación chilena de la IV CLEFA en la ciudad de Maracaibo, Venezuela. En 1981 participó en el libro de Bruno Zevi International Handbook of Contempo- rary Developments in Architecture, en el que escribió un artículo sobre Chile. En 1991, escribió Flaño-Nuñez-Tuca Arquitectos de ediciones ARQ, entre muchos otros libros. Era un firme creyente que el alumno debía conocer su continente, por lo que en 1974 le propuso al decano realizar el primer viaje de estudios de la facultad fuera de Chile. Para tal efecto solicitó el avión de correos de la Fuerza Aérea de Chile. La suerte lo acompañó ya que una de sus alumnas había sido compañera de colegio de una de las hijas del general de aviación Gustavo Leigh, quien le dio el visto bueno. Fue el comienzo de sus viajes académicos. En 1992 la Universidad Finnis Terrae lo llamó para que se hiciera cargo de los viajes académicos, su último viaje fue en 2006 a Egipto.

He married Rosita Guzmán Robinson, with whom he had three children. After graduating, he worked for a year at CORVI (The Housing Corporation) and then with architect Jaime Sanfuentes Yrarrázaval. In 1955 he founded the "General Designs" office together with Hernán Monte- cinos, Vladimir Pereda, and Paula Beuchat, a partnership that lasted until 1975. During the government of Salvador Allende, he was entrusted with the Medical-Dental Service for the students at the University of Chile (SEDMA), which was completed in 1975. A year later, he won a scholarship to study Territorial Planning at the French Ministry of For- eign Affairs. He was Vice-Dean at the University of Chile between 1960 and 1984. He chaired the Chilean delegation to the IV CLEFA in the city of Maracaibo, Venezuela. In 1981, he participated in Bruno Zevi's International Hand- book of Contemporary Developments in Architecture, in which he wrote an article about Chile. In 1991, he wrote Flaño-Nuñez-Tuca Architects ARQ edition, among many other books. He was a strong believer that the student should know his continent, so in 1974 he proposed to the dean to make the first faculty study trip outside Chile. For this purpose, he requested a Chilean Air Force mail plane. Luck was on his side, as one of his students had been a schoolmate of one of the daughters of Air Force General Gustavo Leigh, who gave him the go-ahead. It was the beginning of his academic journeys. In 1992, the Finnis Terrae University called him to take charge of the academic trips, his last trip was in 2006 to Egypt.
