He was born in Santiago in 1933. He studied architecture at the Catholic University, graduating in 1949. He married and had two children. During his career, he had several partners, including Alejandro Méndez Amunátegui, Roberto de Ferrari Soublette, Sergio Araya, and Pablo Bunster. Among his works, a great number of buildings stand out that were groundbreaking for their time because he introduced the concept of terraces to apartments, instead of balconies. To build them, he associated with Lira & Cox and Assler construction companies. He made several houses that he designed and built himself and then sold them because he preferred to avoid designing for clients. He only built houses for acquaintances that allowed him to carry out his work with total freedom. Self-defined as a modernist, he hated "style" constructions. Gustavo Krefft died early in 1974 of esophageal cancer at the age of 42. The house shown here represents a clear position in front of both the topography, as well as the landscape. Kref- ft adapted to the steep land by staggering the architectural program, even placing the kitchen in the basement, and had to climb to access the dining room, something never seen before. On the other hand, the façade´s language facing Las Peñas Street is very hermetic and presents a refined design of access to the two semi-detached houses that he designed consisting of stairs that mix with the parking spaces in a game of unevenness and emptiness. The north facade opens up completely to the sun and the views of the Los Leones Golf Club.
Roberto de Ferrari Soublette, Sergio Araya y Pablo Bunster. Dentro de su obra destacan una gran cantidad de edi- ficios que fueron pioneros en su época ya que introdujo el concepto de terrazas a los departamentos. Para construir estos se asociaba a las constructoras de Lira & Cox y Assler. Hizo varias casas que él mismo diseñaba y construía para luego venderlas ya que prefería evitar proyectar para clientes. Solo construía casas para conocidos que le per- mitían realizar sus obras con total libertad. Autodefinido como modernista, odiaba las construcciones de “estilo”. Gustavo Krefft murió tempranamente el año 1974 de un cáncer al esófago a los 42 años de edad recién cumplidos. La casa aquí expuesta, representa una postura clara tanto frente a la topografía, como al paisaje. Krefft se adaptó a un terreno con una fuerte pendiente escalonando el programa arquitectónico, llegando incluso, a situar la cocina en un subterráneo, y se debía subir para poder acceder al come- dor, algo nunca antes visto. Por otro lado, el lenguaje de la fachada que da hacia la calle Las Peñas es muy hermético y presenta un trabajado diseño de acceso a las dos casas pareadas que proyectó que consiste en escaleras que se mezclan con los estacionamientos, en un juego de desni- veles y vacíos. La fachada norte se abre completamente al sol y a las vistas del Club de Golf Los Leones.
