the architects, incredible lives Osvaldo y Jaime Larraín were classmates at the Catholic University of Chile. Jaime was the nephew of Sergio Larraín García Moreno. Upon graduating in 1949, they formed a partnership that lasted a lifetime. Osvaldo married Margot, Jaime's sister, and Jaime married Mireya, daughter of Luciano Kulczewski. With his brother-in-law and archi- tect, Jaime Kulczewski, they formed a partnership and developed several projects in the cities of Viña del Mar and Valparaíso. It was at this stage, and when Kulczewski was no longer part of the partnership, that Julian, Jaime's younger brother, joined the office. While Jaime was in charge of setting up the business, Osvaldo directed and designed the buildings together with a team of 15 archi- tects. The office teamed up with several architects: Sergio Larraín García Moreno, Emilio Duhart, Roberto Müller, Juan Galleguillos, and Diego Balmaceda, among others. With the triumph of Salvador Allende, Jaime and Osvaldo went to Madrid. Raymundo, Jaime's brother, lived in the city of Marseille with his wife Margaret Rockefeller and invited them to come and introduce them to society and the famous European jet-set parties. The OPEC crisis in 1973 produced an unprecedented rise in the price of oil and the Arab countries and their sheiks found themselves with millions in profits. During the holidays, the Larrains´ suggested that the sheiks invest their money in the so-called "resorts". Thus, they became great architects of the Arab world designing, among other things, huge palaces. In 1979, Jaime validated his degree which allowed them more independence. Due to heart problems, Osvaldo decided to go to the United States for treatment and returned to Chile in 1988. He died in 1992 in his apartment designed by the office located at Américo Vespucio Norte with Presidente Riesco. Jaime died of cancer in Marseille in 1998. Roberto Müller, recently graduated from the Catholic University of Chile went to work in the United States in William S. Beckett´s office. He returned to Chile and started working with the Larraín family. After being the manager of the XIX World Alpine Skiing Championship in 1966 that took place in Portillo, he realized that he did not want to stay in Chile and, through Purcell, owner of the Portillo hotel, he went to work in Italy for Charles Chaplin's United Artist. He was a good friend of Federico Fellini; of Clint Eastwood with the spaghetti westerns; of Marcello Mastroianni; of the then president of the actors' union, Ronald Reagan and other actors such as Gary Cooper, James Stewart, and Sofia Loren. He was in charge of the James Bond ski scene with Roger Moore, among many other film projects. He worked in Spain, France, and En- gland and was the director of the French film A Free Man. He returned to Chile in 2016 and currently lives in El Golf.
