↤ La separación entre el volumen de las viviendas y el edificio original se articula por medio de un patio abierto que armoniza la masividad del edificio. The separation of the two volumes is articulated through an open courtyard that harmonizes the building´s massiveness.

This project seeks the recovery and recycling of the Lota miners´ former Union No. 6 Theater, built between 1954 and 1957, and located in front of Plaza de Armas. Under the premises of sustaining the high cost of living today and rescuing the workers' social patrimony, Resi- dence No. 6 is focused on those who have an active working life, whether they are young or almost retired elderly, and who live alone. The proposal is to design a one-person home where resources are optimized and spaces are shared with an intergenerational community. The proposal is for the building to continue to be oriented towards community use and that it has a block of apartments as a module that rises above the exterior wall that is planned. The separation of these two volumes is articulated through an open courtyard that harmonizes the building´s massiveness. For its part, the former theater´s facade is simplified by removing the eaves, covering the small windows, and removing its interior structure to leave the shell empty. The first floor opens to the sides, and the unused concrete stairs are eliminated from the front. Above this volume are the three levels of 22 meters² housing, consisting of a bathroom, a kitchen, and a work station. The house´s limited size is compensated by the incorporation of common spaces located inside the theater. For structural recycling, steel is used to reinforce the former theater´s old shell. The structure below rises at a distance of one me- ter within a contained perimeter in order to reinforce a masonry wall next to a concrete casing and is formed by perimeter diagonals, which support and raise the housing´s volume housing in harmony with the environment. /
