Yo tenía la idea de hacer la fachada con los vidrios girados perpendicularmente a la fachada, y mi padre me convenció de que no se podía hacer. Después de tres noches sin dormir pensando en la solución, una mañana mi padre me dijo: ya sé cómo podemos hacer que funcione lo de los vidrios girados. Sugirió soluciones viables y, gracias a eso, logramos un edificio muy innovador. Tanto Carlos como tú han estado muy vinculados a la academia, ¿como ves la enseñanza de la arquitectura hoy en día y cómo la visualizas a futuro? Más que hablar de la enseñanza de la arquitectura quiero hablar de la enseñanza universitaria que ya lleva un tiempo en crisis, está quedando obsoleta y los principales responsables somos quienes enseñamos. Desde 2006 que doy clases, y creo que cada vez hay menos profundidad. Las generaciones nuevas están cada vez más acostumbradas a lo instantáneo y su- perficial. Lo que más me importa como profesor es que los alumnos se gradúen con la capacidad crítica de pensar, de profundizar, de entender las cosas y que comprendan que detrás de un buen proyecto hay mu- chas horas de trabajo y pensamiento crítico. Creo que las universidades son un laboratorio, deben ser un lugar de experimentación, de libertad de pensamiento y rigor. Para mí es fundamental que entiendan la importancia del rigor y de la disciplina, de hacer las cosas con oficio y responsabilidad porque lo que hacemos es formar ciudadanos, personas responsables y comprometidas con los valores de la democracia, de la solidaridad, de formarlos para que ellos desarrollen su camino. La enseñanza es acompañar a alguien a cruzar un umbral.

More than talking about the teaching of architecture, I want to talk about university education, which has been in crisis for some time now, it is becoming obsolete and the main people responsible are those who teach. I have been teaching since 2006, and I think there is less and less depth. The new generations are increasingly accustomed to the instantaneous and superficial. What matters most to me as a teacher is that students grad- uate with the ability to think critically, to go deeper, to understand things and that they understand that behind a good project there are many hours of work and critical thinking. I believe that universities are a laboratory, they should be a place of experimentation, of freedom of thought and rigor. For me it is fundamental that they understand the importance of rigor and discipline, to do things with skill and responsibility because what we do is form citizens, responsible people committed to the values of democracy, solidarity, to train them so that they develop their own path. Teaching is accompanying someone to cross a threshold.
