Architecture_Gonzalo Mardones This project reflects the idea of an open-air chapel, a sacred place in the foothills of the mountain range, where the city ends and merges with the geography. The composition is inscribed in a green mantle inserted in a concrete circle that symbolizes the divine creation. The chapel is formed by two large inclined walls, also made of concrete, which form a planned triangle that frames and embraces the sky. Outside the circle, native trees were planted in order to highlight the figure within the park like Land Art. The memorial, which was previously visited by the loved ones of the people inscribed on the concrete walls, now also takes on a new social dynamic such as cultural gatherings, open-air masses, and other celebrations. Likewise, the different geometric shapes provide areas that allow contemplation spaces, and invitations to pause within a sports park. On the other hand, the reference to the distant accounts for the light crevice framing the Virgin that requires a status of its own; an "other place". To this end, a cube was designed that emphasizes containing the space in order to achieve the necessary interiority required by this spot dedicated to Mary, not as a habitable space, but rather as a place to "be inside".
Lighting_Diseño de Luz For the project's illumination, LED profiles were discreetly hidden in the moldings, ensuring that they would go unnoticed during the day. At nightfall, these profiles illuminate every crease, accompanying the pilgrimage with a thought-provoking rhythm in tune with the architecture. The primary ob- jective is to evoke a sense of mystery and spirituality, facilitating the inner connection fundamental to the ritual. During sunset, the spirit of the territory is shown with the glows of light culminating in an intimate individual encounter with the sacred at the cross. Light in the temple is an important material in the interdependence of the experience of space. Architecture without light is empty, as the book of Genesis suggests "Let there be light", from this light springs life, and the same happens in architecture. Light, although invisible, leaves a deep impression on emotions. The new technologies of minimal dimensions make it possible to recreate a new virtual reality with important sensory and, in some cases, emotional stimuli linked to the experience of each space. !
