La capacidad de resistencia de ciertos edificios a permanecer en el tiempo depende de sus características constructivas, materiales, de la capacidad de readaptación y versatilidad en el uso y de la valoración que la sociedad le otorga. La Casa de La Moneda contiene todas estas características, fue edificado como una fábrica de acuñación de monedas a fines del período colonial y hoy es el Palacio de Gobierno, configurando una nueva centralidad histórica. Destaca entre los escasos edificios coloniales que han permanecido en el centro urbano de Santiago de Chile. El trabajo busca demostrar que el patrimonio edificado puede ser un aporte al desarrollo urbano sostenible. The resilience of certain buildings to endure over time depends on their construction characteristics, materials, their ability to be readapted and versatile in their use, and the value that society places on them. La Casa de la Moneda contains all of these characteristics; it was built as a mint at the end of the colonial period and today it is the government palace,
forming a new historical center. It stands out among the few colonial buildings that have remained in downtown Santiago de Chile. The work looks to demonstrate that built heritage can be a contribution to sustainable urban development. This case achieves its permanence through a series of projects to transform both the building and its surroundings.

christian saavedra martínez Arquitecto UNAB, Magíster en Arquitectura UC y Candidato a Doctor en Arquitectura y Estudios Urbanos UC. Ha desarrollado docencia en la Escuelas de Arquitectura UNAB y UC. / An Architect from UNAB with a Master's in Architecture from UC and a PhD candidate in Architecture and Urban Studies at UC. He has taught at the UNAB and UC Schools of Architecture.
