area recognized in the region to create a prome- nade and terraces from where the ocean's horizon can be contemplated. The South Yard The South Yard is a space approximately 900 me- ters long and 75 meters wide on average, located in front of Barrio Estación, in the middle of the city, at an average altitude of 40 meters above sea level. Inside it are la Estación Valdivia (former passenger station and declared a Historic Monument), and the old passenger carriage depots that have been declared, together with a large sector of the yard, as a Typical Zone by the National Monuments Council in 2021. The area that has been intervened is 5.68 hectares. The South Yard project is structured around a 600-meter-long linear park, called Parque de las Cocheras, which restores and recycles those types of shaded areas typical of the saltpeter mines in the north of the country. These old installations provided protection and shade, and in the project, they will continue to fulfill this same function but, this time, at the service of the neighborhood's inhabitants. Under this shade, old passenger carriages will be incorporated, which will serve as diverse programs in the new public space. The possibility of shade will allow the neighbors from the East and West neigh-
borhoods of this sector to meet, integrating two spaces of the city that were previously separated.
The Bellavista Yard Patio Bellavista, approximately 300 meters long and 50 meters wide, is located in front of Avenida Iquique, formerly Avenida de las Carretas. In this case, the area where the project is being developed is 2.14 hectares. In recent years, this place was used as a con- nection point between the North Railway and Antofagasta Railway yards. No particular type of building was developed in this space, except for the English school that operated there until 2007. In 2021, FCAB signed an agreement with the sixth Antofagasta Fire Company "Bomba Ferrocarril", leaving the care and maintenance of the building under its responsibility, to create meeting areas for the community. The urban operation in this area seeks to inte- grate it by opening and urbanizing a network of streets that extend east-west from Barrio Estación and will give neighbors access to the waterfront. The Antofagasta Yard The Antofagasta Yard, the first to be acquired by the company in 1888, is the oldest of them all in the city. The current FCAB offices are located there,
