Guide Right Across Kappa Alpha Psi ® The Inaugural National Kappa League Conference Convened in Concord, North Carolina T he Inaugural National Kappa League Conference came together, celebrated and gave birth to new beginnings within Strategus Terrell Richardson were present for the duration of the Inaugural National Kappa League Conference. By Dr. Samuel Odom Each presenter was allotted 50 minutes for their respective workshop topic

whereby a total of five different groups of Kappa Leaguers rotated from one workshop to the next making their way to nine workshops on Saturday morning and afternoon. Chairman Oscar Neely and Co- Chairman Terry Ward along with the hosts Middle Eastern Province and Charlotte (NC) Alumni Chapter ensured registration, logistics and lodging were seamless for the Kappa Leaguers and brothers from the respective Provinces and Chapters who participated during the Inaugural National Kappa League Conference. One of highlights and milestones during the Inaugural National Kappa League Conference included the recital of “I’m Rooting For Every Chocolate Boy” by Kappa Leaguer Chandler J. Harris of the Southeastern Province from the Stockbridge-Jonesboro (GA) Alumni Chapter Kappa League. Kappa Leaguer Harris experienced a thunderous applause and a resounding ovation; it was a “must hear and see” by all who were present. Chandler is certainly the touchstone of what every Kappa Leaguer ought to aspire to. Former Kappa Leaguer Jaylan Veasley captured and commanded the attention of the Kappa Leaguers and brothers during his very inspirational address which focused upon his Kappa League experiences at the Richardson-Plano (TX) Alumni Chapter Kappa League, his current college experiences at the University of Memphis as an undergraduate and to his musical debut “The Top.”

Brother L-Mani Viney provided poignant and very engaging remarks on behalf of the Kappa Alpha Psi ® Foundation. Grand Polemarch Thomas L. Battles, Jr., addressed the conferees as the plenary speaker via video teleconference where emphasis was placed upon the notion of taking back the learned and lived experiences from the Inaugural National Kappa League Conference to their respective Kappa League chapters. Additionally, Grand Polemarch Battles praised the Kappa Leaguers for their courage, talent, leadership and steadfast spirit of teamwork. Young men, you are blessed to be a part of this historic Guide Right conference, continue to do your best and be your best.” He also explicitly thanked each brother, chapter and province for the heavy-lifting to bring this conference and endeavor to fruition. The following brothers served as presenters covering the subjects/topics during the Inaugural National Kappa League Conference: Junior Grand Vice Polemarch Christopher G. Cross, Grand Strategus Terrell Richardson, Ben Jackson, Diallo Smith, Jamal Cash, Michael Edwards, Judge Kevin Ross, John Marshall Jones, Anthony Lee, Allan Bell, Odis Bellinger, Randall Sherrell, Darnell Lewis, Joseph Carter, Tony Harrison, Demario Reid, Billy Fields and Dr. Samuel Odom. The Conference streamed live compliments of Ben Jackson and preserved so brothers can visit the website and review the Inaugural National Kappa League Conference at any time.

Guide Right under the leadership of National Chairman Kevin L. Burnett (Beta Psi 1975) in Concord, North Carolina during July 13 -15, 2018. Registration opened on Friday, July 13 th with a huge buzz that led to the general session with a call to order, Pledge of Allegiance, Prayer and the Kappa League Pledge followed by the occasion and the seven phases of Kappa League. There were a variety of workshops for more than 235 Kappa Leaguers to participate and take part from Naviance, STEM, College Readiness Preparation, Creating Social Media Videos, Financial Literacy, Leadership Development/Academic Success/ Etiquette, Entrepreneurship, Mental Health and Wellness, Social Media and Learn2Live. Ten of the 12 Provinces of Kappa Alpha Psi ® were represented during the Inaugural National Kappa League Conference. Most of the Kappa Leaguers were 15-17 years of age. Excitement and curiosity kept both Kappa Leaguers and brothers engaged, focused and intrigued given the refreshing surroundings at the Great Wolf Lodge as well as the knowledge- filled lectures and the town-hall like milieus led by brothers who were subject-matter experts who addressed the Kappa Leaguers. Each Kappa Leaguer experienced opportunities to demonstrate diversity of thought, athleticism, intelligence, etiquette among other attributes and skills culminating with spirituality on Sunday
