Joshua R. Briggs 1992–2018 Aspiring Filmmaker

Brother Joshua R. Briggs is survived by his parents, two sisters and a brother. Plans are in development to start a scholarship fund in Brother Briggs’ honor. George L. Brown, Jr. 1929–2018 U.S. Army Colonel (Ret.)

In addition to his membership in Kappa Alpha Psi ® , Brown was a member of American Per- sonnel and guidance Association, Mili- tary Officers Organizations of America (MOAA), Phi Theta Kappa, Department of Veterans Association, N.A.A.C.P., Knights of Columbus, Parliamentarian, 555th Parachute Infantry Association, and Special Forces Association, 82nd Air Borne Division. Brown was bestowed numerous civic awards including Outstanding and Dedi- cation Leadership Award at Gibbs Junior College, Outstanding Alumnus Merit Award from Tuskegee University; 2014, Tuskegee Athletic Hall of fame; 1956- 57, Ring of Honor St. Petersburg Junior College; 2014, Ambassador to City of St. Petersburg, FL; 1992, Phi Theta Kappa Faculty Scholar Award; 1992, SPJC Harambee Award for 18 years of Service 1970-1988, Freedom Team Salute to colonel George L. Brown, Jr; 1992, Cer- tificate of Appreciation, General Daniel "Chappie" James Chapter, Tuskegee Airman, Inc.; 2005, Retired Officers Club's Distinguished Member Award; 2002, President's Emeritus Award 2012, St. Petersburg MOAA Chapter Award among others. He was named in Who's Who Among Colleges and Universities in 1956-57. Colonel Brown is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Dorothy L. Isom Brown; daughter, Stephanie T. Brown-Gilmore (Ricardo); sons, George L. Brown III (Muriel) and Gregory Perez Brown (Marina); brothers, Howard Brown and Lawrence Brown; sister, Deanna B. Brown; grandchild, Shaquita C. Brown; great-grandchildren, London- Skye C., Dominick and David Brown; a host of other relatives and friends.

He carried this comedic and positive energy with him everywhere he went. He could make anyone laugh and he would encourage you to live and enjoy life." Briggs attended Los Angeles’ Washing- ton Prep High School where he was elected Senior Class Vice-President and served as editor of the school newspaper. While in high school, he participated in plays such as "A Raisin in the Sun". In 2010, he was accepted into California State University-Northridge where he was involved in many independent film projects include his senior thesis "The Right Fight" and "Take the money and Run”, which won several accolades from the Writer's Guild. In 2016, he earned a B.A. degree in Cinema and Television Arts from California State University – Northridge. Briggs was a screenplay writer who was working on building his own film production company entitled NuSpect Productions. with dreams of directing and starting a company to help up- and-coming writers network. Briggs on NuSpect Productions: “It is my com- pany’s mission to provide new perspec- tives on stories that are currently being told and stories that have been told in the past. The company will assist young creators and actors find opportunities to work with others that helps build their network and their portfolio through col- laboration…”.

the late George Lewis Brown, Sr. and Lizzie Mae Davis Brown. He graduated from Columbus, GA’s William Spencer High School in 1946 where he served as Literary Editor 1945-46 and won an All City Football Award in 1945. Brown earned a B.S. Degree from Tuskegee Institute (now University) in 1957, M.S. in 1958 from University of Michigan, further study at University of Florida and Bethune Cookman College 1964- 66, and completed requirements for his PhD from University of Michigan in 1970. A career military man, Brown enlisted in U.S. Army in 1947 and advanced to the rank as Colonel before retiring in 1984. His military achievements include: The Legion of Merit Medal, Meritorious Ser- vice Medallion with Bar Leaf cluster for Second Award, Army Achievement Med- al, Army Reserve Components Medal, Army Occupational Medal, 1946-49, and 1953-55, National Defense Service Medal with Star for second among oth- ers. Brown also was a Physical Educa- tion Instructor and Assistant Football Coach at Dillard University, 1958-59, and Gibbs Junior College 1959-69, Guidance Counselor Tappan H.S. Ann Arbor, Mich., 1969-70, Instructor and Assistant Basketball Coach, Head Track Coach and Guidance Counselor at St. Petersburg Junior College 1970-1992. He was a 1951 initiate of the Tuskegee
