El edificio Estación se planteó como un gran galpón de estructura de acero, que reconoce y evoca la condición de puerto que caracterizó a Castro a principios de siglo cuando era un puerto libre y cuando el actual terreno era una parada improvisada del tren que unía Ancud y Castro. Para definir la altura del edificio se consideraron los 15 mts de alto del cerro que está a sus espaldas, en vez de los 25 mts que permitía el plan regulador. El edificio destaca la vista privilegiada al mar, levantándose un piso y mirando sobre los techos de los palafitos, liberando el primer nivel para albergar el acceso y los estacionamientos. Los depar- tamentos se desarrollaron como plantas libres en los pisos siguientes, enmarcando la vista hacia el canal de Castro. Los espacios públicos y privados están divididos por un núcleo húmedo que contiene la cocina, baño y logia, y que deja el resto del departamento para libre uso. /
The Station Building was designed as a large steel struc- ture that acknowledges and evokes the spirit of the port that characterized Castro at the beginning of the century. At that time, it was a free port and the current site was an improvised train stop that connected Ancud and Castro. To define the building's height, the 15 -meter hill behind it was considered instead of the 25 meters allowed by the zoning regulation. The building highlights the exceptional view of the ocean by going up one floor and looking over the roofs of the stilt houses, thus freeing up the first level to house the entrance and parking areas. The apartments were developed as open floor plans on the upper floors, providing a view of the Castro Canal. The public and private areas are divided by a wet core containing the kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room, leaving the rest of the apartment free use. /
